IEEE iSES 2018 - DEADLINE: July 20, 2018
4th IEEE INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON SMART ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS
December 17-19, 2018, Hyderabad, India
(Formerly IEEE International Symposium on Nanoelectronic and Information Systems (iNIS))
The primary objective of IEEE-iSES 2018 is to provide a platform for both hardware and software researchers to interact under one umbrella for further development of smart electronic systems. Efficient and secure data sensing, storage, and processing play pivotal roles in current information age.
The state-of-the-art smart electronic systems cater to the needs of efficient sensing, storage, and computing. At the same time, efficient algorithms and software used for faster analysis and
retrieval of desired information are becoming increasingly important. Big data which are large, complex data sets, are now a part of the Internet world. Storing and processing needs of the enormous amount of structured and unstructured data are getting increasingly challenging. At the same time, Internet of Things (IoT) and cyber-physical systems (CPS) have been evolving with simultaneous development of hardware and software and span across everyday consumer electronics. The performance and efficiency of the present as well as the future generations of computing and information processing systems are largely dependent upon advances in both hardware and software.
iSES 2018 is sponsored by IEEE-CS under TCVLSI. iSES has been initiated as a sponsored
meeting of Technical Committee on VLSI, IEEE-CS (http://www.ieee-tcvlsi.org/)

Virtualization Call for PapersVirtualization technologies constitute a key
enabling factor for flexible resource managementin modern data centers, and
particularly in cloud environments. Cloud providers need tomanage complex
infrastructures in a seamless fashion to support the highly dynamic
andheterogeneous workloads and hosted applications customers deploy.
Similarly, HPCenvironments have been increasingly adopting techniques that
enable flexible managementof vast computing and networking resources, close
to marginal provisioning cost, which isunprecedented in the history of
scientific and commercial computing.Various virtualization technologies
contribute to the overall picture in different ways: machinevirtualization,
with its capability to enable consolidation of multiple underutilized
servers withheterogeneous software and operating systems (OSes), and its
capability to live-migrate afully operating virtual machine (VM) with a
very short downtime, enables novel and dynamicways to manage physical
servers; OS-level virtualization (i.e., containerization), with
itscapability to isolate multiple user-space environments and to allow for
their coexistencewithin the same OS kernel, promises to provide many of
the advantages of machine virtualization with high levels of responsiveness
and performance; I/O Virtualization allows physical network interfaces to
take traffic from multiple VMs or containers; network virtualization, with
its capability to create logical network overlays that are independent of
theunderlying physical topology is furthermore enabling virtualization of
HPC infrastructures. PublicationAccepted papers will be published in a

SCOPE
The use of graphical security models to represent and analyse the
security of systems has gained an increasing research attention over the
last two decades. Formal methods and computer security researchers, as
well as security professionals from the industry and government, have
proposed various graphical security models, metrics, and measurements.
Graphical models are used to capture different security facets and
address a range of challenges including security assessment, automated
defence, secure services composition, security policy validation, and
verification. For example, attack graphs, attack trees, attack–defence
trees, and attack countermeasure trees represent possible ways of
attacking and defending a system while misuse cases and mal-activity
diagrams capture threats and abusive behaviour of users.
TOPICS
This year, we are particularly keen to encourage excellent submissions
related, but not restricted, to the following broad headings:
• Graph representations: mathematical, conceptual, and implemented tools
for describing and reasoning about security
• Logical approaches: formal logical tools for representing and
reasoning about graphs and their use as modelling tools in security
• Machine learning: modelling and reasoning about the role of big data
and machine learning in security operations
• Networks in national security: terrorist networks, counter-terrorism
networks; safety in national infrastructure (e.g., utilities and
transportation)
• Risk analysis and management: models of risk management in business
and organizational architectures
• Social networks: using and reasoning about social graphs, network
analysis, network protocols, social mapping, sociometry.
Preference will be given to papers likely to stimulate high-quality
debate at the Workshop.
PAPER SUBMISSION
We solicit two types of submissions:
• Regular papers (up to 15 pages, excluding the bibliography and
well-marked appendices) describing original and unpublished work within
the scope of the workshop.
• Short papers (up to 7 pages, excluding the bibliography and
well-marked appendices) describing original and unpublished work in
progress.
The reviewers are not required to read the appendices, so the papers
should be intelligible without them. All submissions must be prepared
using the LNCS style:
http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-6-793341-0

INTRODUCTION
=============
Big Data has received increasing attention in recent years, as
organizations and cities are dealing with tremendous amounts of data
with high complexity and velocity. These data are fast moving and
changing in value, meaning and format. They also can originate from
various sources, such as social networks, unstructured data from
different devices or raw feeds from sensors. It, thus, challenges
traditional data management approaches and tools related to performance,
integration and analytics. One of the key challenges is how to use Cloud
and Services Computing to process Big Data, build effective cloud
applications, and provide service-based data analytics. However, there
exists particularly limited knowledge on how to apply the Big Data
technologies into Cloud and Services Computing applications. Therefore,
this Special Session aims to discuss Big Data in Cloud and Services

*Joint Workshop on Deep (or Machine) Learning for Safety-Critical
Applications in Engineering (https://easychair.org/cfp/DISE1
<https://easychair.org/cfp/DISE1>)*
This is a Joint Workshop between ICML (
https://icml.cc/Conferences/2018/CallForWorkshops), AAMAS (
http://celweb.vuse.vanderbilt.edu/aamas18/workshopsList/) and IJCAI (
https://www.ijcai-18.org/workshops/).
Modern technological advances in engineering fields such as automotive,
aerospace, robotic, even data centers and networks, are exploiting machine
learning to improve and maintain mission critical activities. These systems
are large, complex and require real-time learning with feedback to ensure
they function as desired. Detecting anomalies, analyzing failures and
predicting future system state are imperative and are becoming part of
engineering integrative approaches. Research in algorithmic methods to make
real-time decisions based on fast arriving, high-volume condition data,
on-site feedback and data models is needed to train machine learning models
quickly and correctly.
This workshop aims to bring together diverse researchers from areas such as
reinforcement learning, autonomous agents, game theory, controls and
operations engineering teams to develop approaches which enable real-time
discovery, inference and computational tools. These techniques are aimed to
influence engineering operations teams in aerospace, self-driving
automotive, robotics, data centers and any engineering operations that
automate mission-critical and safety applications.
We encourage focus on aspects of deep learning to solve problems into
domains where continuous training and fast results are needed without
jeopardizing prediction accuracy. However, we also encourage exploration of
new innovative machine learning approaches, which can solve these problems
with improved latency. We are also seeking contributions in advances of
streaming and distributed algorithms, heterogeneous and high-dimensional
data sets and real-time decision- making algorithms for operations.
Some possible topics of interests but not confined are:
- *Adaptation*: How can systems learn and adapt to changes in the
environment (especially in dynamic environments) when training data is less
and requires quick model assumption. How can principles of autonomous
agents working together to build large engineering systems be exploited to
react in dynamic situations.
- *Noisy and poor data sets*: How can machine learning models be trained
to understand noisy data sets for quick learning. Missing data exploration?
- *Detecting anomalous behavior:* How can anomalies be detected quickly
and partitioned appropriately such that correct actions are applied?
- *Improving latency:* How can machine learning algorithms be improved
to produce results quickly than previously anticipated?
- *Improving software and hardware performance:* Exploring models of
GPU, HPC processing and FPGAs to improve the performance of algorithms can
greatly influence their use in engineering design. Experimental
demonstrations are encouraged to display this.
- *Reinforcement learning:* How can machine learn correct behavior? Can
training be made quicker with guidance to allow algorithms to produce
corrective measure when anomalies are detected?
- *Human factors:* how can engineers maintaining the system interact
with the self- autonomous system
- *Open problems in engineering where machine learning is not proving
fruitful*. What are the open problems in operations where practical
machine learning is difficult to apply? What are the limitations and how
can these be improved?
Workshop dates will be between 14th and 15th of July 2018, located as part
of Joint IJCAI/ECAI/AAMAS/ICML Call for Workshops. Specific dates will be
announced soon.
Important dates:
--------------------------

Title: Robust topology optimization under uncertainty – application to
automotive brake systems
Location: LAMIH UMR CNRS 8201, University de Valenciennes, Le Mont Houy,

Keywords: Topology optimization; Uncertainty; Surrogate models;
Metaheuristic; Evolutionary algorithms; Numerical methods
Project description: Optimization under uncertainty aims at accounting
for the observed variability of some model parameters in order to tend
to robust and reliable designs. The integration of multiple uncertain
parameter, for example relative to a topology, a topography or boundary
conditions, relies on the use or the coupling of different theories
(probability, interval, fuzzy …) for a successful representation of the
observed evolutions. In engineering, investigated problems lead to large
time consuming mathematical problems associated to the objective and
state functions. Generally, they are addressed by considering the finite
element method. To solve this kind of problem, numerical strategies
based on parallel calculations, surrogate models and metaheuristic
algorithms (Evolutionary algorithms) are necessary. Moreover, a
multi-objective formulation must be considered to guarantee the
robustness of the optimal solutions.
Research in optimization is a fundamental field for all the engineering
domains to answer the new environmental requirements. The optimization
method, proposed in this project, will be applied to investigate brake
squeal phenomenon. Indeed, the reduction of environmental acoustic
pollution is a major concern for automotive manufacturers. These last
years, several research works revealed the interest for uncertain
stability analysis used to simulate squeal. Among the already studied
parameters, the variability of the topography of contact surfaces seems
to be the most sensitive parameter. To tend to a robust design, it is
essential to integrate the spatial uncertainty during the design step of
the brake components.
The objective of this multidisciplinary thesis project is to develop a
topology optimization strategy under topographical uncertainty for
dynamic stability problems.

*PURPOSE and SCOPE*
Virtualization has become the foundation of cloud computing. The scale of
cloud computing data centers is similar to the supercomputers used in High
Performance Computing. Both involve millions of CPU cores, tens of
thousands of accelerators like GPUs, FPGAs connected by high speed
interconnects and different connection topologies. Studies have shown that
the GPU utilization in HPC is often at 50%. Virtualization can be the key
to increasing resource utilization and managing massive infrastructures
efficiently.
GPU vendors have introduced virtualized versions of GPUs. FPGAs are being
deployed in virtual infrastructure. These and other developments in the
field, along with future exascale systems, will provide increasing degree
of virtualization within the systems.

PRIVACY IN STATISTICAL DATABASES 2018 (PSD 2018)
================================================
*** CALL FOR PAPERS: HARD SUBMISSION DEADLINE MAY 27, 2018***
Valencia, Spain, Sep. 26-28, 2018
http://unescoprivacychair.urv.cat/psd2018
1. AIMS AND GOALS-----------------
Privacy in statistical databases is about finding tradeoffs to the tension between the increasing societal and economical demand for accurate information and the legal and ethical obligation to protect the privacy of individuals and enterprises which are the respondents providing the statistical data. In the case of statistical databases, the motivation for respondent privacy is one of survival: statistical agencies or survey institutes cannot expect to collect accurate information from individual or corporate respondents unless these feel the privacy of their responses is guaranteed.
Beyond respondent privacy, there are two additional privacy dimensions to be considered: privacy for the data owners (organizations owning or gathering the data, who would not like to share the data they have collected at great expense) and privacy for the users (those who submit queries to the database and would like their analyses to stay private).
Co-utility has shown to provide sustainable solutions to user privacy.
"Privacy in Statistical Databases 2018" (PSD 2018) is a conference sponsored and organized by the UNESCO Chair in Data Privacy (http://unescoprivacychair.urv.cat) with proceedings published by Springer-Verlag in Lecture Notes in Computer Science. The purpose of PSD 2018 is to attract world-wide, high-level research in statistical database privacy.
PSD 2018 is a successor to
PSD 2016 (Dubrovnik, Sep. 14-16, 2016 https://unescoprivacychair.urv.cat/psd2016/),

PSD 2012 (Palermo, Sep. 26-28, 2012, http://unescoprivacychair.urv.cat/psd2012),
PSD 2010 (Corfu, Sep. 22-24, 2010, http://unescoprivacychair.urv.cat/psd2010),
PSD 2008 (Istanbul, Sep. 24-26, 2008, http://unescoprivacychair.urv.cat/psd2008),
PSD 2006 (Rome, Dec. 13-15, 2006, http://crises-deim.urv.cat/psd2006)
and PSD 2004 (Barcelona, June 9-11, 2004, http://crises-deim.urv.cat/psd2004),
all with proceedings published by Springer in LNCS 9867, LNCS 8744, LNCS 7556, LNCS 6344, LNCS 5262, LNCS 4302 and LNCS 3050, respectively. Those eight PSD conferences follow a tradition of high-quality technical conferences on SDC which started with "Statistical Data Protection-SDP'98", held in Lisbon in 1998 and with proceedings published by OPOCE, and continued with the AMRADS project SDC Workshop, held in Luxemburg in 2001 and with proceedings published in Springer LNCS 2316.

The Second International Workshop on Parallel and Distributed Data Mining (WPDM 2018)
http://sara.unisalento.it/~cafaro/WPDM2018/
CALL FOR PAPERS
As part of The 18th International Conference on Computational Science and Its Applications (ICCSA 2018), http://www.iccsa.org
July 2 - 5 2018, Melbourne, Australia
Submission Deadline: April 9, 2018
SPECIAL ISSUE
Selected extended versions of workshop papers will be invited to a Special Issue to appear in the Algorithms journal (see http://www.mdpi.com/journal/algorithms/special_issues/Parallel_Distributed_…)
SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES
The Workshop on Parallel and Distributed Data Mining is an international forum which brings together researchers and practitioners working on different high-performance aspects of data mining algorithms, enabling novel applications. Data mining techniques and algorithms to process huge amount of data in order to extract useful and interesting information have become popular in many different contexts. Algorithms are required to make sense of data automatically and in efficient ways. Nonetheless, even though sequential computer systems performance is improving, they are not suitable to keep up with the increase in the demand for data mining applications and the data size. Moreover, the main memory of sequential systems may not be enough to hold all the data related to current applications. Therefore, there is an increasing interest in the design and implementation of parallel data mining algorithms. On parallel computers, by exploiting the vast aggregate main memory and processing power of processors and accelerators, parallel algorithms can easily address both the running time and memory requirement issues. Anyway, parallelizing existing algorithms in order to achieve good performance and scalability with regard to massive datasets is not trivial. Indeed, it is of paramount importance a good data organization and decomposition strategy in order to balance the workload while minimizing data dependences. Another concern is related to minimizing synchronization and communication overhead. Finally, I/O costs should be minimized as well. The Workshop will allow exchanging ideas and results related to on-going research, focusing on high-performance aspects of data mining algorithms and applications. Creating breakthrough parallel algorithms for high-performance data mining applications requires addressing several key computing problems which may lead to novel solutions and new insights in interdisciplinary applications. The focus of the workshop is on all forms of advances in high-performance data mining algorithms and applications, and related topics.
The WPDM Workshop topics include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Parallel data mining algorithms using MPI and/or OpenMP

AIMS AND MOTIVATION
This workshop aims at bringing together contributions by scientists and
practitioners to shed light on the development of scientific concepts,
technologies, engineering techniques and tools for a service-based society.
In particular, the focus is on Microservices, i.e., the use of services
beyond the traditional cross-organizational B2B approach and the
implementation of the model inside of applications, scaling in the small
the concepts previously seen in the large. In Microservices, each component
of a software is a service with the related issues of scalability and
distribution of responsibility.
Topics of interest include (but not limited to):

- Coordination models for Microservices
- Empirical studies on services and Microservices
- Programming languages for Microservices
- Static analysis of Microservices
- Testing of Microservice systems
- Migration to Microservices
- Adaptation and Evolution of Microservices
SCOPE
This workshop constitutes a forum for scientists and engineers in academia
and industry to present and discuss their latest ongoing research as well
as radical new research directions that represent challenging innovations,
which can advance the status quo and the understanding in the Microservices
area and its applications, in particular in the IoT and IoS where the
scaling in the small approach is of major importance. We believe that STAF
attendees might be interested in attending this workshop because of the
relevance of its themes and goals to the Software Engineering (SE) and
Formal Methods (FM). Also, industry partners and mobile developers are
particularly welcome, thanks to their more practical approach, hopefully
bringing some real scenario examples.

- Parallel data mining algorithms targeting GPUs and many-cores accelerators
- Parallel data mining applications exploiting FPGA
- Distributed data mining algorithms

Special session - Hybrid Life: Approaches to integrate biological, artificial and cognitive systems
https://sites.google.com/view/hybrid-life/ <https://sites.google.com/view/hybrid-life/>
2018 Artificial Life conference (ALife)
Tokyo, JAPAN, 23-27 July 2018 - http://2018.alife.org/ <http://2018.alife.org/>
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DESCRIPTION:
The main focus of ALife research is the study of natural systems with the goal of understanding what life is. More concretely, ALife defines ways to investigate processes that contribute to the formation and proliferation of living organisms. In this session we focus on three common approaches to tackle this investigation, proposing ways to integrate, extend and possibly improve them. More specifically we refer to: 1) the formalisation of the necessary properties for the definition of life, 2) the implementation of artificial agents, and 3) the study of the relation between life and cognition.
For this special session we propose to start from these well-established Alife methodologies, and extend them through:
a unified formal language for the description and modelling of living, as well as artificial and cognitive systems, e.g. control theory, Bayesian inference, dynamical systems theory, etc.,
the exploration of biological creatures enhanced by artificial systems (or artificial systems augmented with organic parts) in order to investigate the boundaries between living and nonliving organisms, and
the evaluation of coupled biological-artificial systems that could shed light on the importance of interactions among systems for the study of living and cognitive organisms.
This special sessions aims to invite contributions from the fields of psychology, computational neuroscience, HCI, theoretical biology, artificial intelligence, robotics and cognitive science to discuss current research on the formalisation, combination and interaction of artificial/living/cognitive systems from theoretical, modelling and implementational perspectives.
Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

The IEEE 6th International Conference on Future Internet of Things and
Cloud (FiCloud 2018)
6-8 August 2018, Barcelona, Spain
http://www.ficloud.org/2018/
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Internet of Things (IoT) vision is to provide a dynamic and global
network infrastructure which is characterized by intelligent and self
configuring capabilities. IoT is considered as an integral part of the
future Internet. It is based on interoperable communication protocols in
order to enable the interaction and integration of virtual as well as
physical Things such as computers, smart devices, sensors, cars,
refrigerators, food packages, medicines, etc. Things can be seamlessly
integrated into the information network and interaction can be made
through the provision of intelligent interfaces. In not so distant
future, IoT will be forcing its way into every aspect of our lives and
technologies including smart homes, smart cities, environment and
nature, green energy, food, medicine, automotive, aerospace and
aviation, telecommunication, and so on.
IoT is generally characterized by real world and small Things, limited
capacity, constrained devices and the consequential issues such as less
reliability, security and privacy. Cloud computing on the other hand
deals mainly with virtual world and has unlimited capabilities in terms
of storage and processing power. Thus cloud and IoT are the main
complementary aspects of the future Internet. IoT can benefit from the
unlimited capabilities and resources of cloud computing. Similarly,
cloud can benefit from IoT by extending its scope to deal with real
world things in a more distributed and dynamic manner.
The theme of this conference is to promote the state of the art in
scientific and practical research of the IoT and cloud computing. It
provides a forum for bringing together researchers and practitioners
from academia, industry, and public sector in an effort to present their
research work and share research and development ideas in the area of
IoT and cloud computing.

*Introduction:*
Computer security is the use of technology, policies, and education to
assure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data during its
storage, processing, and transmission. To secure data, we pursue three
activities: prevention, detection, and recovery. This book will be about
the use of machine learning and data mining methods to secure data, and
such methods are best suited for detection. Detection is simply the process
of identifying something’s true characteristic. For example, we might want
to detect if a program contains malicious logic. Informally, a detector is
a program that reports positively when it detects the characteristic of
interest; otherwise, it reports negatively or nothing at all. There are two
ways to build a detector: We can build or program a detector ourselves, or
we can let software build a detector from data. To build a detector
ourselves, it is not enough to know what we want to detect, for we must
also know how to detect what we want. The complexity of today’s networked
computers makes this a daunting task in all but the simplest cases. Researchers
may debate where the exact point lies, but starting somewhere on this
spectrum leading to the ideal are methods of machine learning.
This book will use a wealth of examples and illustrations to effectively
demonstrate the principles, algorithm, challenges and applications of
machine learning and data mining for Computer and Cyber Security. This
comprehensive book will be full of the valuable insight into machine
learning and data mining for computer and cyber security and will touch
every corner of the topic of computer and cyber security and will cover
most of important security aspects and current trends that are missed in
other books. In addition, it will be an excellent book to teach a
course on Machine
learning and data mining for Computer and security. The material will
prepare the students for exercising better protection and defense in terms
of understanding the motivation of the attackers and how to deal with and
mitigate the situation in a better manner.
This book will be an invaluable resource for students at all levels
interested in machine learning and data mining for computer and cyber
security. It will also serve as an excellent reference in cyber security
professionals in this fast-evolving and critical field. The contents of

WPDM 2018
