The symposium proceedings will be published by Springer in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series (LNCS). All submissions should follow the LNCS template ( available from http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html ) from the time they are submitted. Submitted papers should be at most 16 pages (using 10-point font), excluding the bibliography and well-marked appendices, and at most 20 pages total. Committee members are not required to read the appendices, so the paper should be intelligible without them. All submissions must be written in English. Submissions are to be made to the submission web site. Only pdf files will be accepted. Submissions not meeting these guidelines risk rejection without consideration of their merits. Authors of accepted papers must agree with Springer LNCS copyright and guarantee that their papers will be presented at the conference. The functional and technical scope of those initiatives is broad. Various application domains intersect at the crossroads of the initiatives. Vision is necessary to carve the image of the initiatives. But insufficient for their realization. At the root of the success in implementing and deploying visions is technology. Technology is a tangible “realization” of solutions, which arise from innovative thinking. Specific technological solutions and devices to be blended within the adopted architectural framework representing developed system need sophisticated software tools underpinned by solid formal methodologies to assist in and guide through the design, validation, testing, deployment, and monitoring phases of the system life-cycle. The challenge laid for the broad automation of human activities and societies is vast, and requires visionary innovative thinking. Requires revolution in innovative thinking and the way we think of innovation. Nothing short of the 4th revolution in innovative thinking: Innovation 4.0. The first in the series conference on Societal Automation will attempt to take a stock of where the area id now; of the expectations and concrete plans of decision makers; of existing technologies and technologies still to be invented to support further and planned developments; of the supporting design & development software tools to make systems eventuate. The most crucial, however, are the expectations of us, individuals without major say in the Societal Automation evolution to ensure the developments serve our interest and do not threaten our privacy, body and psychological integrity, and safety in general. Paper submissions The SAC2019 conference is seeking submissions of up to 8 double-column pages reporting on novel and significant contributions to the field of industrial communication systems. Prospective authors are encouraged to submit a pdf version of their papers through the SAC2019 submission system. ***Big Data for public health policy making Workshop*** [Apologies if you receive multiple copies of this message] ****************************************************** The First IEEE SERVICES Workshop on Big Data for public health policy making In conjunction with the IEEE SERVICES 2019, July 8-13, 2019, Milan, Italy http://conferences.computer.org/services/2019/ ****************************************************** ** Description and Scope As acknowledged by the World Health Organization, by a number of governmental institutions, and patient associations, the effective management of health-related problems depends on and requires appropriate public health policies. A public health policy may have a significant effect on the prevention and early diagnosis and early treatment of several diffuse and debilitating conditions including, for instance, cognitive decline. The management of such health problems and their consequences through public health policies can benefit from the analysis of heterogeneous data (e.g., collected from modern IoT sensors as well as from standard clinical trials). Big Data Analytic techniques enable the investigation of specific health problems, their possible relations to other comorbidities and contextual factors, and patterns of such relations. The workshop seeks submissions from academia and industry presenting novel research on all theoretical and practical aspects concerning the adoption of Big Data Analytics in the context of evidence-based public health policy making. The workshop targets innovative techniques and solutions for supporting policy makers and clinicians in: i) taking decisions based on evidence and on ii) simulating scenarios aimed at predicting evolutions of health diseases at epidemiological level. It also aims to investigate security and privacy concerns related to the analysis of health data and the possible impact that security and privacy measures may produce on the achievable quality of analyses and the effectiveness of health policies. The workshop aims also to investigate: i) the modelling and adoption of advanced Artificial Intelligence models for policy making based on simulations and open data and ii) the possible trade-off between the design and implementation of health policies that may require years to produce their expected results and solutions able to rapidly produce tangible results. The workshop will bring together researchers of different disciplines, policy makers and clinicians, from academia and industry, all sharing a common goal: to go beyond the frontier of today's public health policy making process by envisioning how to exploit the full potential of Big Data Analytics in ways compliant with the principles and needs of modern societies, like satisfying security and privacy requirements. The scale of cloud computing data centers is similar to the supercomputers used in High Performance Computing. Studies have shown that the GPU utilization in HPC is often at 50%. Virtualization can be the key to increasing resource utilization and managing massive infrastructures efficiently. These and other developments in the field, along with future exascale systems, will provide increasing degree of virtualization within the systems. Data mining techniques and algorithms to process huge amount of data in order to extract useful and interesting information have become popular in many different contexts. Algorithms are required to make sense of data automatically and in efficient ways. Nonetheless, even though sequential computer systems performance is improving, they are not suitable to keep up with the increase in the demand for data mining applications and the data size. Moreover, the main memory of sequential systems may not be enough to hold all the data related to current applications. Therefore, there is an increasing interest in the design and implementation of parallel data mining algorithms. On parallel computers, by exploiting the vast aggregate main memory and processing power of processors and accelerators, parallel algorithms can easily address both the running time and memory requirement issues. Anyway, parallelizing existing algorithms in order to achieve good performance and scalability with regard to massive datasets is not trivial. Indeed, it is of paramount importance a good data organization and decomposition strategy in order to balance the workload while minimizing data dependences. Another concern is related to minimizing synchronization and communication overhead. Finally, I/O costs should be minimized as well. The Workshop will allow exchanging ideas and results related to on-going research, focusing on high-performance aspects of data mining algorithms and applications. Creating breakthrough parallel algorithms for high-performance data mining applications requires addressing several key computing problems which may lead to novel solutions and new insights in interdisciplinary applications. The focus of the workshop is on all forms of advances in high-performance data mining algorithms and applications, and related topics. Various virtualization-containerization technologies contribute to the overall picture in different ways: machine virtualization, with its capability to enable consolidation of multiple underutilized servers with heterogeneous software and operating systems (OSes), and its capability to live-migrate a fully operating virtual machine (VM) with a very short downtime, enables novel and dynamic ways to manage physical servers; OS-level virtualization (i.e., containerization), with its capability to isolate multiple user-space environments and to allow for their coexistence within the same OS kernel, promises to provide many of the advantages of machine virtualization with high levels of responsiveness and performance; lastly, unikernels provide for many virtualization benefits with a minimized OS/library surface. Data mining techniques and algorithms to process huge amount of data in order to extract useful and interesting information have become popular in many different contexts. Algorithms are required to make sense of data automatically and in efficient ways. Nonetheless, even though sequential computer systems performance is improving, they are not suitable to keep up with the increase in the demand for data mining applications and the data size. Moreover, the main memory of sequential systems may not be enough to hold all the data related to current applications. Therefore, there is an increasing interest in the design and implementation of parallel data mining algorithms. On parallel computers, by exploiting the vast aggregate main memory and processing power of processors and accelerators, parallel algorithms can easily address both the running time and memory requirement issues. Anyway, parallelizing existing algorithms in order to achieve good performance and scalability with regard to massive datasets is not trivial. Indeed, it is of paramount importance a good data organization and decomposition strategy in order to balance the workload while minimizing data dependences. Another concern is related to minimizing synchronization and communication overhead. Finally, I/O costs should be minimized as well. The Workshop will allow exchanging ideas and results related to on-going research, focusing on high-performance aspects of data mining algorithms and applications. Creating breakthrough parallel algorithms for high-performance data mining applications requires addressing several key computing problems which may lead to novel solutions and new insights in interdisciplinary applications. The focus of the workshop is on all forms of advances in high-performance data mining algorithms and applications, and related topics. We plan to edit a book "Incompleteness in Information" and are looking for prospective chapter authors and reviewers. The dual concepts of incompleteness and inconsistency were introduced in the early 1970s by John Grant. While there was little research on inconsistency in information for several decades, incompleteness became important within a few years on account of the null value problem in relational databases for which John showed that Codd's 3-valued logic approach , later adopted for SQL, did not always give the correct answer. So research on incompleteness has been going on for nearly 50 years. We would like to put together a book that covers the past, present, and future of incompleteness. So we are interested in survey chapters of past work on incompleteness, research chapters of up-to-date issues in this area and would like a chapter that concentrates on research issues for the future. We are interpreting incompleteness in a fairly broad sense for databases and AI including games, for instance. However, we are excluding incompleteness in the sense of statistical, probabilistic, and fuzzy data. The increasing power of computers has allowed to considerably extend the application of computing methodologies in research and industry, but also to the quantitative study of complex phenomena. This has permitted a broad application of numerical methods for differential equation systems (e.g., FEM, FDM, etc.) on one hand, and the application of alternative computational paradigms, such as Cellular Automata, Genetic Algorithms, Neural networks, Swarm Intelligence, etc., on the other. These latter have demonstrated their effectiveness for modelling purposes when traditional simulation methodologies have proven to be impracticable. Dear Colleagues, You are encouraged to participate in a very special event: the 2019 Summer School on Cyber-Physical Systems and Internet-of-Things - CPS&IoT’2019 that will be held in Budva, Montenegro, June 10-14, 2019. Assistant Professor in Computer Science The German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech) was established in collaboration with RWTH Aachen University in 2007 in Muscat, the capital of the Sultanate of Oman. The Vision of the German University of Technology in Oman is to become a leading university of technology in the wider region by building on the three pillars of education, research and innovation. Through its affiliation with RWTH Aachen University, the German University of Technology in Oman provides students with the education required to become highly qualified and socially responsible graduates, guided by German excellence and with a firm grounding in Oman's culture and heritage. GUtech's programmes of study are accredited by the German agency ACQUIN and the University has recently undergone a successful evaluation by the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD. GUtech faculty also engage in local research projects, often in cooperation with RWTH Aachen University and other universities abroad. The Computer Science Department at GUtech is committed to excellence in teaching and research. It is striving to convey broad theoretical and practical knowledge to its students, while focusing on cutting-edge technologies and latest standards. In addition to covering areas related to programming, databases, Web-based technologies, networking, computer systems, mobile applications, and software engineering, the Computer Science curriculum of the department includes an important business component. The Computer Science Department is going to expand in the near future. A new Master degree in Computer Science is expected to start in September 2019. Skilful, motivated, and devoted faculty members will, therefore, be needed accordingly. The Computer Science Department is seeking applications for the position of a Assistant Professor in Computer Science 1. Requirements and Competencies Candidates must have a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields. They should have demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate/graduate courses and able to prove minimum of 3 years teaching experience at higher education level in Computer Science (or related fields). Candidates from all research/teaching areas are welcome, but preference will be given to candidates with expertise in one of the following: Mobile application development; Web design and development; Data Science; Security. Industry experience is an asset, as well as research activities and publications. The successful applicant will be expected to teach several courses on the undergraduate and graduate level. Candidates should have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work within a multi-cultural team environment. The language of instruction at GUtech is English. 2. Tasks and Responsibilities We are looking for skillful, motivated, and devoted candidates to fulfill the following responsibilities: - Teaching undergraduate/graduate computer science courses - Developing and implementing teaching and learning initiatives - Supervising Bachelor/Master thesis projects - Contributing to students' advising - Contributing to high quality research activities as appropriate - Contributing to accreditation activities - Providing services to the department, university, and community 3. The interdisciplinary nature of the related research challenges has prompted the creation of new multidisciplinary work groups. The 6th ACM International Conference on Nanoscale Computing and Communication (ACM NanoCom 2019) aims to further grow the research community that contributes to nanocomputing and communications, and to stimulate the knowledge transfer to industries. ACM NanoCom 2019 will highlight novel research results and breakthrough ideas, and identify directions for short and medium term exploitation. Novel theoretical and experimental research contributions are welcome.
