While inherently parallel, they exhibit highly variable execution performance at a local level due to unpredictable memory access patterns and/or network transfers, divergent control structures, and data imbalances. Moreover, they often require fine-grain synchronization and communication on large-data structures such as graphs, trees, unstructured grids, sparse matrices, deep nets, tables, and their combinations (such as, for example, attributed graphs). They have a significant degree of latent parallelism, which however is difficult to exploit due to their complex behavior. Current high performance architectures rely on data locality and regular computation to reduce access latencies, and often do not cope well with the requirements of these applications. Furthermore, irregular applications are difficult to scale on current supercomputing machines, due to their limits in fine-grained synchronization and small data transfers. Irregular applications pertain both to well established and emerging fields, such as machine learning, social network analysis, bioinformatics, semantic graph databases, Computer Aided Design (CAD), and computer security. Many of these application areas also process massive sets of unstructured data, which keep growing exponentially. Emerging supercomputing applications are moving towards a convergence of scientific simulation, data analytics, and learning algorithms, mixed in various ways. Addressing the issues of irregular applications on current and future architectures will become critical to solve the challenges in science and data analysis of the next few years. This workshop seeks to explore solutions for supporting efficient execution of irregular applications in the form of new features at the level of the micro- and system-architecture, network, languages and libraries, runtimes, compilers, analysis, algorithms. Topics of interest, of both theoretical and practical significance, include but are not limited to: - Micro- and System-architectures, including multi- and many-core designs, heterogeneous processors, accelerators (GPUs, vector processors, Automata processor), reconfigurable (coarse grained reconfigurable and FPGA designs) and custom processors - Network architectures and interconnect (including high-radix networks, optical interconnects) - Novel memory architectures and designs (including processors-in memory) - Impact of new computing paradigms on irregular workloads (including neuromorphic processors and quantum computing) - Modeling, simulation and evaluation of novel architectures with irregular workloads - Innovative algorithmic techniques - Combinatorial algorithms (graph algorithms, sparse linear algebra, etc.) - Impact of irregularity on machine learning approaches - Parallelization techniques and data structures for irregular workloads - Data structures combining regular and irregular computations (e.g., attributed graphs) - Approaches for managing massive unstructured datasets (including streaming data) - Languages and programming models for irregular workloads - Library and runtime support for irregular workloads - Compiler and analysis techniques for irregular workloads - High performance data analytics applications (including graph databases and solutions that combine graph algorithms with machine learning) - Applications that integrate scientific simulation, data analytics, and learning, and require efficient execution of irregular workloads Besides regular papers, papers describing work-in-progress or incomplete but sound, innovative ideas related to the workshop theme are also encouraged. We solicit both 8-page regular papers and 4-page position papers. Authors of regular papers will be able to provide up to one (1) additional pages for the Artifact Description (AD) appendix and, after paper acceptance, up to two (2) additional pages for the Artifact Evaluation (AE) appendix. Accepted papers will be published in the IEEE Digital Library through IEEE TCHPC. -------------------- Artifact Description & Evaluation -------------------- This edition of the workshop invites authors of regular papers to follow a reproducibility initiative like the main SC Conference, with specific appendices for the Artifact Description (AD) and the Artifact Evaluation (AE). Please refer to the SC reproducibility page for further details on the rationale behind AD and AE: https://sc19.supercomputing.org/submit/reproducibility-initiative/. Authors of regular papers will be able to use up to one (1) additional page to provide an Artifact Description (AD) Appendix, describing the details of their software environments and computational experiments to the extent that an independent person could replicate their results. This additional page is voluntary, and must focus only on details on software environments and methods to execute the experiments. It should not add details on the proposed technical approaches. If a paper has no computational results, the appendix only needs to mention that computational results are not part of the paper. Additionally, authors of accepted regular papers will be invited to formally submit their supporting materials to the Artifact Evaluation (AE) process. The process is voluntary, but authors that will participate in the AE will be eligible for the Best Paper Award of the workshop. Supporting materials for the AE include access to the actual software artifact, shared publicly (for example, through the CK - Collective Knowledge - https://github.com/ctuning/ck format), and two (2) further additional pages of the paper that details how to reproduce the results of the paper. Authors of papers recommended for a second round will be allowed to revise the paper to address the comments and suggestions made by the program committee. The revisions will undergo a second round of review before the final notification. Submitted papers must represent original unpublished research that is not currently under review for any other conference or journal. Papers not following these guidelines will be rejected without review and further action may be taken, including (but not limited to) notifications sent to the heads of the institutions of the authors and sponsors of the conference. For these decisions to be valid, it is essential that the one not only record the process by which results were produced, but be able to reproduce the data involved at every step in the process. While we are all used to tracking source code revisions, and keeping track of program inputs and outputs, the increased complexity of end-to-end computing pipelines, coupled with new big-data and machine learning algorithms, imposes significant complexity on tracking all of the steps and associated data that went into producing a result. For example, keeping track of exactly what data use used for a training set vs. an evaluation set, what cleaning was done, what analysis was done on the results to evaluate performance, and what additional experiments were performed. With the ever-increasing number, size, and complexity of the data used in data-intensive applications, reproducing results from these types of investigations becomes increasingly difficult. While no-one deliberately sets out to create un-reproducible results, recent surveys of the literature shows that the ability to reproduce data-intensive results are the exception and not the rule. For these reasons, a symposium on issues, tools and infrastructure for data intensive applications is highly germane to the ParCo community. In this symposium, we propose to review current state of the art in reproducibility in data-intensive computing applications. We will cover three primary topic areas: - Reproducibility challenges that are specific to science and engineering activities that have data-intensive computing as a core aspect of the process - Infrastructure, tools and methods that are currently available for reproducible data-intensive applications, and gaps and challenges that need to be addressed. - How to increase the adoption of methods for reproducible data-intensive applications across the research community. We are soliciting poster submissions for EuroMPI 2019 that show-case work on the Message Passing Interface (MPI) or work that is related to message-passing parallel computing. We particularly encourage graduate students to publicise their ongoing work. We invite submissions from users of MPI, developers of MPI, and researchers in the broader field of message-passing parallel computing. See IEEE style templates at this page for details. Electronic submissions must be in the form of a readable PDF file. Manuscripts must be received by the published paper submission deadline. All manuscripts will be reviewed by the Program Committee and evaluated on originality, relevance of the problem to the conference theme, technical strength, rigor in analysis, quality of results, and organization and clarity of presentation of the paper. Authors are highly encouraged to list the key contributions of their paper. This should be in a separate paragraph in the introduction to the paper. Please note that the review process is “single-blind” (i.e., authors can list their names on the paper). This year we are introducing a two-phase review process, in which the first round of reviews will be made available to the authors for a brief rebuttal. Based on the reviews and the rebuttal, an initial decision will be issued. Papers will be either accepted or rejected or recommended for a second round. Authors of papers recommended for a second round will be allowed to revise the paper to address the comments and suggestions made by the program committee. The revisions will undergo a second round of review before the final notification. Submitted papers must represent original unpublished research that is not currently under review for any other conference or journal. Papers not following these guidelines will be rejected without review and further action may be taken, including (but not limited to) notifications sent to the heads of the institutions of the authors and sponsors of the conference. Submissions received after the due date, exceeding length limit, or not appropriately structured may also not be considered. The conference is designated as ACM SIGGRAPH small conference, and is supported by Eurographics and IEEE, with proceedings published by IEEE-CS. Recently, the research focus has shifted towards security and privacy aspects in virtual worlds, with cybersecurity emerged as one of the emerging research directions. Security research domain has recently witnessed tremendous growth in respect to all aspects of information access and sharing. There has been notable progress in developing successful approaches to tackle the problem of user authentication. Among those approaches, biometric-based authentication firmly established itself as one of the most reliable, efficient, and versatile tools for providing discretionary access control to a secure resource or system. While state-of-the art methods for biometric authentication are becoming increasingly more popular and better understood, the same unfortunately cannot be said about security of users populating on-line communities or cyberworld. Big data systems often embody a number of technologies, such as cloud computing, the Internet of Things (IoT), fog computing, high-performance computing (HPC), artificial intelligence (AI), and in particular machine learning (ML). These technologies come with their own technical limitations and constraints that also impact the architecture of big data systems. Enforcing security, privacy, transparency, and ethics are also concerns of increasing importance, with potential architectural implications. OBJECTIVES ========== The Big Data Value Association (BDVA, http://www.bdva.eu/) initiated the SACBD workshop series to provide a forum for discussing all aspects of the software architecture challenges of big data systems. The workshop welcomes the contributions of practitioners and researchers alike. The workshop is open to all, both BDVA members and non-members. Technical issues and challenges related to software architecture are well covered by the European Big Data Value Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (http://www.bdva.eu/SRIA) Such software architecture trends are facilitating new data-driven operations and services which are at the core of the new economy revolving around big data value. As organizations become more and more data-centric, they need to re-design their software architectures accordingly. For example, data-intensive systems and applications need to be put in place and properly integrated with traditional systems (e.g. web applications). This affects not only the architecture design but also its implementation and non-functional aspects. For example, performance and data protection are paramount when dealing with Big Data. This situation creates a need for new methods and tools to design and reason about software architectures in Big Data scenarios and paves the way for various research directions. For example, how to design software architectures when dealing with Big Data? Which are the typical architectural patterns? How to assess the performance or the privacy risk of Big Data architectures? The workshop will focus on these and many others aspects of software architectures in the Big Data era. TOPICS OF INTEREST ================== The workshop solicits papers on all aspects of software architecture for big data. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: * Software architectures in genuine big data scenarios * Architectural patterns for big data * Architectures of big data systems (e.g., Spark, Flink, Hadoop) * Integration of Big Data systems with other business systems * Non-functional requirements (e.g., performance, security, privacy, reliability) * Combining big data with IoT, HPC, cloud computing, fog computing * Applying machine learning to big data scenarios, big data integration with artificial intelligence * Fostering business with big data and analytics SUBMISSION GUIDELINES ===================== Original, high-quality papers are solicited, from researchers and practitioners alike. Both full papers (maximum 8 pages) and short papers (maximum 4 pages) will be considered. All papers must be written in English and follow the ACM formatting instructions and templates for conference papers, as specified under https://www.acm.org/publications/icps-instructions/. Independently from the length, several types of papers will be considered (experience reports, new approaches, review or analysis of existing approaches, empirical studies, theoretical results, negative results, position papers, vision papers). The contribution of a paper must be commensurate with its length. Submitted papers must be original, not submitted and not published elsewhere. Accepted papers will be published in the ECSA companion proceedings in the ACM Digital Library. 2019 NIH iDASH Secure Genome Analysis Competition and Workshop (October 26, 2019, Indianapolis, Indiana, USA) Call for Participation The 6th iDASH Secure Genome Analysis Competition and Workshop is calling for participation from the academia and the industry to showcase state-of-the-art privacy technologies for protecting real-world biomedical data analysis. In the past 5 years, the iDASH competition has been serving as a bridge between the privacy/security research and the biomedical research, challenging the security community to come up with the best solutions that can offer practical supports for privacy-preserving biomedical computing. It has been widely considered to be a benchmark for evaluating data privacy technologies, particularly when they are applied to biomedical data analysis, and a key source for the biomedical and genomics researchers to seek usable solutions for protecting their data and computing tasks. This year's competition is characterized by 4 tracks as described below. Competition Tasks Track 1: Distributed Gene-Drug Interaction Data Sharing based on Blockchain and Smart Contracts The competitors are asked to develop smart contracts on a blockchain network to share gene-drug interaction data in a distributed way. Track 2: Secure Genotype Imputation using Homomorphic Encryption The competitors are required to develop a homomorphic encryption (HE) based method for performing genotype imputation Track 3: Outsourcing Privacy-preserving Machine Learning as a Service through TEE The competitors are expected to implement a trained deep learning model for disease prediction under the protection of SGX, Intel's trusted execution environment, so the model can work on encrypted genomic data uploaded by the user. Track 4: Privacy-preserving machine learning The competitors are tasked to train a machine learning model on gene expression data for breast tumors, with all the data secretly shared across multiple servers. These trends negatively impact the costs of developing, porting, and maintaining HPC applications. Meanwhile, new programming models and languages are being developed that strive to improve upon the status quo. This is accomplished by unifying the expression of parallelism and locality across the system, raising the level of abstraction, making use of modern language design features, and/or leveraging the respective strengths of programmers, compilers, runtimes, and operating systems. These alternatives may take the form of parallel programming languages (e.g., Chapel, Fortran 2018, Julia, UPC), frameworks for large-scale data processing and analytics (e.g., Spark, Tensorflow, Dask), or libraries and embedded DSLs that extend existing languages (e.g., Legion, COMPSs, SHMEM, HPX, Charm++, UPC++, Coarray C++, Global Arrays). The PAW-ATM workshop is designed to explore the expression of applications in scalable parallel programming models that serve as an alternative to the status quo. It is designed to bring together applications experts and proponents of high-level programming models to present concrete and practical examples of using such alternative models and to illustrate the benefits of high-level approaches to scalable programming. Scope and Aims The PAW-ATM workshop is designed as a forum for exhibiting studies of parallel applications developed using high-level parallel programming models serving as alternatives to MPI+X-based programming. We encourage the submission of papers and talks that describe practical distributed-memory applications written using alternatives to MPI+X, and include characterizations of scalability and performance, expressiveness and programmability, as well as any downsides or areas for improvement in such models. Our hope is to create a forum in which architects, language designers, and users can present, learn about, and discuss the state of the art in alternative scalable programming models while also wrestling with how to increase their effectiveness and adoption. Beyond well-established HPC scientific simulations, we also encourage submissions exploring artificial intelligence, big data analytics, machine learning, and other emerging application areas. Topics include, but are not limited to: * Novel application development using high-level parallel programming languages and frameworks. * Examples that demonstrate performance, compiler optimization, error checking, and reduced software complexity. * Applications from artificial intelligence, data analytics, bioinformatics, and other novel areas. * Performance evaluation of applications developed using alternatives to MPI+X and comparisons to standard programming models. * Novel algorithms enabled by high-level parallel abstractions. * Experience with the use of new compiler and runtime environments. * Libraries using or supporting alternatives to MPI+X. * Benefits of hardware abstraction and data locality on algorithm implementation. Submissions Submissions are solicited in two categories: 1) Full-length papers presenting novel research results: * Full-length papers will be published in the workshop proceedings. Submitted papers must describe original work that has not appeared in, nor is under consideration for, another conference or journal. Papers shall be eight (8) pages minimum and not exceed ten (10) including text, appendices, and figures. Appendix pages related to the reproducibility initiative dependencies, namely the Artifact Description (AD) and Artifact Evaluation (AE), are not included in the page count. 2) Extended abstracts summarizing preliminary/published results: * Extended abstracts will be evaluated separately and will not be included in the published proceedings; they are intended to propose timely communications of novel work that will be formally submitted elsewhere at a later stage, and/or of already published work that would be of interest to the PAW-ATM audience in terms of topic and timeliness. Application correctness and execution efficiency, in spite of frequent faults, errors, and failures, is essential to ensure the success of the extreme-scale HPC systems, cluster computing environments, Grid computing infrastructures, and Cloud computing services. While a fault (e.g., a bug or stuck bit) is the cause of an error, its manifestation as a state change is considered an error (e.g., a bad value or incorrect execution), and the transition to an incorrect service is observed as a failure (e.g., an application abort or system crash). A failure in a computing system is typically observed through an application abort or a full/partial service or system outage. A detectable correctable error is often transparently handled by hardware, such as a single bit flip in memory that is protected with single-error correction double-error detection (SECDED) error correcting code (ECC). A detectable uncorrectable error (DUE) typically results in a failure, such as multiple bit flips in the same addressable word that escape SECDED ECC correction, but not detection, and ultimately cause an application abort. An undetectable error (UE) may result in silent data corruption (SDC), e.g., an incorrect application output. There are many other types of hardware and software faults, errors, and failures in computing systems. Resilience for HPC systems encompasses a wide spectrum of fundamental and applied research and development, including theoretical foundations, fault detection and prediction, monitoring and control, end-to-end data integrity, enabling infrastructure, and resilient solvers and algorithm-based fault tolerance. This workshop brings together experts in the community to further research and development in HPC resilience and to facilitate exchanges across the computational paradigms of extreme-scale HPC, cluster computing, Grid computing, and Cloud computing. Submission Guidelines: Authors are invited to submit papers electronically in English in PDF format. Submitted manuscripts should be structured as technical papers and BETWEEN 10 AND 12 PAGES, including figures, tables and references, using Springer's Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) format at <http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-6-793341-0>. Papers with less than 10 or more than 12 pages will not be accepted due to publisher guidelines. Submissions should include abstract, key words and the e-mail address of the corresponding author. EUSIPCO 2019 SATELLITE WORKSHOP ON SIGNAL PROCESSING, COMPUTER VISION AND DEEP LEARNING FOR AUTONOMOUS SYSTEMS A CORUNA, SPAIN, SEPTEMBER 6th 2019 CALL FOR PAPERS WORKSHOP SUMMARY During the last years we are witnessing a constantly increasing use and interest for Autonomous Systems (AS) such as UAVs, humanoid robots, cars, marine and underwater vessels, etc. This is due to their numerous applications in transport, surveillance, mapping, manufacturing, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure inspection, cinematography etc. Successful deployment of autonomous systems involves tackling a number of interesting and challenging topics such as AS localization, planning, action and mapping, analysis of visual data coming from AS sensors for human centric or environment active perception and cognition, privacy protection technologies in AS data, 3D data (e.g. LIDAR) processing and analysis, communication issues for AS, sensor fusion, multimodal interfaces etc. These tasks can be addressed by using several methodologies from the areas of signal/image/video processing and analysis, computer vision and machine learning (including deep learning) provided that they respect several constraints and limitations inherent to AS, such as real-time operation, limited available computing resources on board the AS, need for robustness in real-life scenarios etc. The aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers, engineers and computer scientists working in the areas of signal/image/video processing and analysis, computer vision, and machine learning for AS to present and discuss recent developments and trends in this exciting area. The workshop will consist of 2-3 invited talks by prominent researchers and oral presentations featuring research papers. (School of Management Studies, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi, India), Rajneesh Ranjan Jha (IBS Hyderabad, IFHE University, Hyderabad, India) The purpose of this article is to examine the dimensionalities, mechanisms, and the conditions under which information characteristics of the corporate employment website influence job seekers' job pursuit intention and recommendation intention. Drawing on the stimulus-organism-response (S-O-R) framework, the data collected from 181 active job seekers posit that the effects of information characteristics, such as information relevancy, information accuracy, and information timeliness on organizational attractiveness are mediated by job seekers' attitudes towards the website, which in turn direct to create job pursuit intention and intention to recommend. Furthermore, it is also postulated that the relationship between the above-said characteristics and attitude towards the website is moderated by the perceived privacy concern of the job seekers. In addition, the article results also supported that the relationship between job seekers' website attitude and organizational attractiveness is moderated by perceived organizational reputation. However, this article aims further to establish the role of employee engagement as a mediator between these variables. The sample used in the study consists of employees from Indian IT sector and data is analyzed with the help of correlation and regression analysis to test both direct and mediating effects. Results obtained confirm the partial role of employee engagement in mediating the above variables in context of Indian IT sector. The study confirms that person-organization fit affects the decision of employees to stay/not to stay with their organization and also that employees with higher levels of employee engagement would be less likely to leave their employer. Specifically, it will focus on the verification and validation (V&V) process, which provides the operational community with confidence in knowing that cyber models represent the real world, and will discuss how defense training may benefit from cyber models. It will also investigate advances in emulators, simulators and their potential combination. The workshop papers are expected to take a holistic approach to the overall system assurance process, presenting advances in the simulation of people, policies, processes, and technologies currently available in the field. The workshop aims to connect the multiple threads that currently compose cyber modelling and simulation into a coherent view of what is usable in order to train experts and non-computer-savvy users toward and assured operation of critical systems. The workshop will precede the ESORICS 2019 conference. MSTEC encourages systems security researchers to share early iterations of bleeding-edge ideas with the community, before they are further developed into full papers. IMPORTANT: An accepted paper will be published in the proceedings only if the final camera-ready version is accompanied by the payment of at least one full registration for one of the authors. Authors of accepted papers will be invited to submit an extended version of their work to a post-conference monograph. We plan to invite all papers for a volume in the Springer series of Lecture Notes in Bioinformatics (LNBI). Continuing the tradition of CIBB, we also plan to invite the best papers, as an alternative to the publication on LNBI, to a special issue of an international scientific journal (such as BMC Bioinformatics, as in the latest editions).

Considering the complex analysis pipelines often used in biomedical research, there is a main bottleneck that involves the storage, integration, and analysis of experimental data, as well as their correlation and integration with publicly available data banks. While parallel computing and Grid computing may offer the computational power and the storage to face this overwhelming availability of data, Cloud Computing is a key technology to hide the complexity of computing infrastructures, to reduce the cost of the data analysis task, and especially to change the overall model of biomedical research and health provision. High-performance infrastructures may offer the huge data storage needed to store experimental and biomedical data, while parallel computing can be used for basic pre-processing (e.g. parallel BLAST, mpiBLAST) and for more advanced analysis (e.g. parallel data mining). In such a scenario, novel parallel architectures (e.g. CELL processors, GPUs, FPGA, hybrid CPU/FPGA) coupled with emerging programming models may overcome the limits posed by conventional computers to the mining and exploration of large amounts of data. On the other hand, these technologies yet require great investments by biomedical and clinical institutions and are based on a traditional model where users often need to be aware and face different management problems, such as hardware and software management, data storage, software ownership, and prohibitive costs (different professional-level applications in the biomedical domain have an high starting cost that prevent many small laboratories to use them). The Cloud Computing technology, that is able to offer scalable costs and increased reachability, availability and easiness of application use, and possibility to enforce collaboration among scientists, is already changing the business model in different sectors and now it has begun to be adopted in the bioinformatics and biomedical domains. However, many problems remain to be solved, such as availability and safety of the data, privacy-related issues, availability of software platforms for rapid deployment, and the execution and billing of biomedical applications. The goal of ParBio 2019 is to bring together scientists in the fields of high performance and cloud computing, computational biology and medicine to discuss, among the others, the parallel implementation of bioinformatics and biomedical applications and problems and opportunities of moving biomedical and health applications on the cloud. Moreover, big data analytics issues in healthcare and bioinformatics will be addressed. The workshop will focus on research issues, problems and opportunities of moving biomedical and health applications on the cloud, as well as on the opportunity to define guidelines and minimum requirements for a Biomedical Cloud. Moreover, the workshop will discuss about parallel and distributed management and analysis of molecular and clinical data that more and more need to be integrated and analyzed in a joint way. McAfee report on malware threats shows that over four quarters of 2017 there were identified 690 millions of malware samples, which is an extreme number considering amount of manual work required to process even a tiny fraction of those. Many malware analysis across different security organizations spent hours trying to analyze and understand functionality of malware. At the same time overwhelming amount of malicious threats and malware forms cause considerable delays from the time malware has been discovered to the time a corresponding efficient signature was created. Moreover, the malware infection is no longer limited to personal computers, but now also hits such components as Internet of Things and Industrial Control Systems, which were previously unaffected and the cybersecirty impact was underestimated. From before Machine Learning and Computational Intelligence have demonstrated advantages of application in cybersecurity-related tasks. In particular, many researchers have been employing such techniques to mitigate obfuscation, polymorphous and encryption while building intelligent malware detection mechanisms. Intelligent malware analysis and detection is an emerging topic of cybersecurity that has to go in line with advancement of malware developers and consistent presence of zero-day attacks. Our focus is not only to build and effective Machine Learning-based malware protection, but also comprise models that are to be understood by human experts. Therefore, we believe that Machine Learning-aided human-oriented approaches will ensure timely response to malware threats. Moreover, those can serve as a stepping stone in faster and more efficient analysis of novel malware as well as similarity-based identification of adversarial attacks on Machine Learning. *** PROPOSED TOPICS *** Note that the topics are not limited to this proposed list. 1. All submitted papers will be evaluated on the basis of relevance, the significance of contribution, technical quality, and quality of presentation, by at least three independent reviewers (the papers will be reviewed following standard peer-review procedures of the Journal).
