Complementing the main technical program, HiPC workshops serve to broaden the technical scope of the conference in emerging areas of high performance computing, networking, data analytics, and their applications. Held on the first day of the conference, HiPC workshops will typically be half-day events although proposals for full-day workshops will also be considered. Workshops should have contributed papers in their program, and can have invited talks, poster sessions, and panel discussions as part of their technical program. Workshop organizers are responsible for preparing the call for papers to their workshops and also peer-review all submissions in accordance with the conference and IEEE guidelines. Papers accepted for presentation at the HiPC 2020 workshops will be included in the workshops volume of the conference proceedings with a separate ISBN (HiPCW 2020) and will be distributed online. Post-conference, papers presented at the conference and eligible for inclusion will be made available to the IEEE Xplore Digital Library. Each workshop should be centered around a coherent theme or topic related to HPC and/or scalable data science; We particularly encourage workshop themes that relate to emerging areas and/or emerging application contexts of societal value (e.g., agriculture, energy, sustainability, workforce development). Workshop proposals will need to clearly state the purpose and the applications of the techniques in the abstract. Workshop proposers will also need to clearly identify how they are going to attract papers and speakers. What/Where to Submit Potential HiPC workshop organizers should submit a workshop proposal that contains the items listed below. The proposal should also specify steps to be taken to develop a high-quality program committee and attract high-quality submissions to place the workshop(s) in a competitive international landscape. Workshops will be held on the first day of the conference, i.e., December 16th. Workshops may be proposed as a half-day program, running for 3 hours in the morning or afternoon, or as a full day program. In the case of the latter, organizers should explain how they will attract sufficient participation to develop a full day program of peer-reviewed papers. Proposals to organize a workshop at HiPC 2020 should include: * Description: title; topics to be addressed; goals; relevance and significance to the main conference. * Names, affiliations and contact information for organizers. * Plans for soliciting submissions, and the process for selecting papers to be presented at the workshop and included in the workshop proceedings. * Tentative names of Keynote/ invited speakers * Tentative program outline, identifying key elements such as panels, discussion sessions, poster sessions, invited talks, etc. * Tentative list of PC members to be recruited * A detailed timeline of the peer-review process The proposal should not exceed three pages and should be submitted as a pdf file to the HiPC Workshops Chairs at workshops(a)hipc.org. Separate email will be sent for this option. Lectures abstract 1) Structure from Motion Summary: Image-based 3D Shape Reconstruction, Stereo and multiview imaging principles. Feature extraction and matching. Triangulation and Bundle Adjustment. Mathematics of structure from motion. UAV image capturing. Optimal UAV flight trajectory/flight height/viewing angle/image overlap ratio. Pre/post-processing for 3D reconstruction: flat surface smoothing/mesh modification/isolated point removal. Structure from motion applications: 3D face reconstruction from uncalibrated video. 3D landscape reconstruction. 3D building/monument reconstruction and modeling, 2) 2D convolution and correlation algorithms Summary: 2D convolutions play an extremely important role in machine learning, as they form the first layers of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). They are also very important for computer vision (template matching through correlation, correlation trackers) and in image processing (image filtering/denoising/restoration). 3D convolutions are very important for machine learning (video analysis through CNNs) and for video filtering/denoising/restoration. 1D convolutions are extensively used in digital signal processing (filtering/denoising) and analysis (also through CNNs). Therefore, 2D convolution and correlation algorithms are very important both for machine learning and for signal/image/video processing and analysis. As their computational complexity is of the order O(N^4), their fast execution is a must. This lecture will overview 1D/2D linear and cyclic convolution. Then it will present their fast execution through FFTs, resulting in algorithms having computational complexity of the order O(Nlog2N), O(N^2log2N) for 1D and 2D convolutions respectively. Parallel block-based 2D convolution/calculation methods will be overviewed. The use of 2D convolutions in Convolutional Neural Networks will be presented. Lecturer: Prof. Ioannis Pitas (IEEE fellow, IEEE Distinguished Lecturer, EURASIP fellow) received the Diploma and PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, both from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. Since 1994, he has been a Professor at the Department of Informatics of the same University. He served as a Visiting Professor at several Universities. His current interests are in the areas of image/video processing, machine learning, computer vision, intelligent digital media, human centered interfaces, affective computing, 3D imaging and biomedical imaging. He has published over 1138 papers, contributed in 50 books in his areas of interest and edited or (co-)authored another 11 books. He has also been member of the program committee of many scientific conferences and workshops. In the past he served as Associate Editor or co-Editor of 9 international journals and General or Technical Chair of 4 international conferences. He participated in 70 R&D projects, primarily funded by the European Union and is/was principal investigator/researcher in 42 such projects. He has 30000+ citations to his work and h-index 81+ (Google Scholar). We apologize if you receive multiple copies of this call for papers. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 13th Workshop on Resiliency in High Performance Computing (Resilience) in Clusters, Clouds, and Grids <https://www.csm.ornl.gov/srt/conferences/Resilience/2020> in conjunction with the 26th International European Conference on Parallel and Distributed Computing (Euro-Par), Warsaw, Poland August 24 - 28, 2020 <http://2020.euro-par.org> 2020 Workshop Format: Due to the exceptional situation of COVID-19, this year Euro-Par and its workshops will be organized as an all-virtual event. This includes the main conference and workshops. The accepted workshop papers must be presented by one of the authors in order to be included in the proceedings. There will be a single minimal registration fee for each accepted paper in order to cover expenses associated with organization and proceedings publication. Lastly, the preferred presentation format for the workshop will be via a streaming presentation, with slides and pre-recorded video presentations used in exceptional situations. Overview: Resilience is a critical challenge as high performance computing (HPC) systems continue to increase component counts, individual component reliability decreases (such as due to shrinking process technology and near-threshold voltage (NTV) operation), hardware complexity increases (such as due to heterogeneous computing) and software complexity increases (such as due to complex data- and workflows, real-time requirements and integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies with traditional applications). Correctness and execution efficiency, in spite of faults, errors, and failures, is essential to ensure the success of the HPC systems, cluster computing environments, Grid computing infrastructures, and Cloud computing services. The impact of faults, errors, and failures in such HPC systems can range from financial losses due to system downtime (sometimes several tens-of-thousands of Dollars per lost system-hour), to financial losses due to unnecessary overprovision (acquisition and operating costs), to financial losses and legal liabilities due to erroneous or delayed output. The emergence of AI technology opens up new possibilities, but also new problems. Using AI technology for operational intelligence that enables resilience in HPC systems and centers is a complex control problem, while designing resilient AI technology for HPC applications is a difficult algorithmic problem. Resilience for HPC systems encompasses a wide spectrum of fundamental and applied research and development, including theoretical foundations, error/failure and anomaly detection, monitoring and control, end-to-end data integrity, enabling infrastructure, and resilient algorithms. This workshop brings together experts in the community to further research and development in HPC resilience and to facilitate exchanges across the computational paradigms of extreme-scale HPC, cluster computing, Grid computing, and Cloud computing. Submission Guidelines: Authors are invited to submit papers electronically in English in PDF format. Submitted manuscripts should be structured as technical papers and BETWEEN 10 AND 12 PAGES, including figures, tables and references, using Springer's Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) format at <http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-6-793341-0>. Formal methods and computer security researchers, as well as security professionals from the industry and government, have proposed various graphical security models, metrics, and measurements. Graphical models are used to capture different security facets and address a range of challenges including security assessment, automated defence, secure services composition, security policy validation, and verification. The International Workshop on Graphical Models for Security is an established scientific event dedicated to study and exchange of experiences on graphical security and safety modelling. TOPICS This year, we encourage excellent submissions related, but not restricted, to the following broad headings: 1. Graph representations: mathematical, conceptual, and implemented tools for describing and reasoning about security and safety 2. Logical approaches: formal logical tools for representing and reasoning about graphs and their use as modelling tools in security 3. Machine learning: modelling and reasoning about the role of big data and machine learning in security operations 4. Networks in national security: terrorist networks, counter-terrorism networks; safety in national infrastructure (e.g., utilities and transportation) 5. Risk analysis and management: models and graphical methodologies for security and privacy risk management in business and organisational architectures 6. Social networks: using and reasoning about social graphs, network analysis, network protocols, social mapping, sociometry. 7. Semantics: developing or studying semantic approaches to graph-based models used in security like set theoretic models, categorical models, logical models, etc. 8. Threat modelling: modelling and analysing software systems security, models for DevSecOps, etc. 9. Security requirements: models and tools for describing and analysing requirements on system security and privacy. 10. Visual security: modelling and analytics for security visualisations. 11. Secure systems: safe and secure system design, quantification of security/safety, models for system security/safety evaluation. We welcome a broad range of contributions: from theory to tools and experience reports. Preference will be given to papers likely to stimulate high-quality debate at the Workshop. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES We solicit two types of submissions: - Regular papers (up to 18 pages, excluding the bibliography and well-marked appendices) describing original and unpublished work within the scope of the workshop. - Short papers (up to 10 pages, excluding the bibliography and well-marked appendices) describing original and unpublished work in progress. The reviewers are not required to read the appendices, so the papers should be intelligible without them. All submissions must be prepared using the LNCS style. Time series data are ubiquitous. In domains as diverse as finance, entertainment, transportation, and health care, we observe a fundamental shift away from parsimonious, infrequent measurement to nearly continuous monitoring and recording. Rapid advances in diverse sensing technologies, ranging from remote sensors to wearables and social sensing, are generating rapid growth in the size and complexity of time series archives. Thus, although time series analysis has been studied extensively, its importance only continues to grow. What is more, modern time series data pose significant challenges to existing techniques (e.g., irregular sampling in hospital records and spatiotemporal structure in climate data). Finally, time series mining research is challenging and rewarding because it bridges a variety of disciplines and demands interdisciplinary solutions. Now is the time to discuss the next generation of temporal mining algorithms. The focus of MiLeTS workshop is to synergize the research in this area and discuss both new and open problems in time series analysis and mining. The solutions to these problems may be algorithmic, theoretical, statistical, or systems-based in nature. Further, MiLeTS emphasizes applications to high impact or relatively new domains, including but not limited to biology, health and medicine, climate and weather, road traffic, astronomy, and energy. The MiLeTS workshop will discuss a broad variety of topics related to time series, including: · Time series pattern mining and detection, representation, searching and indexing, classification, clustering, prediction, forecasting, and rule mining. · BIG time series data. · Hardware acceleration techniques using GPUs, FPGAs and special processors. · Online, high-speed learning and mining from streaming time series. · Uncertain time series mining. · Privacy preserving time series mining and learning. · Time series that are multivariate, high-dimensional, heterogeneous, etc., or that possess other atypical properties. · Time series with special structure: spatiotemporal (e.g., wind patterns at different locations), relational (e.g., patients with similar diseases), hierarchical, etc. · Time series with sparse or irregular sampling, non-random missing values, and special types of measurement noise or bias. · Time series analysis using less traditional approaches, such as deep learning and subspace clustering. · Applications to high impact or relatively new time series domains, such as health and medicine, road traffic, and air quality. · New, open, or unsolved problems in time series analysis and mining. ------------------------------ Submission Guidelines ------------------------------ Submissions should follow the SIGKDD formatting requirements and will be evaluated using the SIGKDD Research Track evaluation criteria. Preference will be given to papers that are reproducible, and authors are encouraged to share their data and code publicly whenever possible. Submissions are strongly recommended to be no more than 4 pages, excluding references or supplementary materials (all in a single pdf). The appropriateness of using additional pages over the recommended length will be judged by reviewers. All submissions must be in pdf format using the workshop template (latex, word). Submissions will be managed via the MiLeTS 2020 EasyChair website. *Note on open problem submissions:* To promote new and innovative research on time series, we plan to accept a small number of high-quality manuscripts describing open problems in time series analysis and mining. Such papers should provide a clear, detailed description and analysis of a new or open problem that poses a significant challenge to existing techniques, as well as a thorough empirical investigation demonstrating that current methods are insufficient. *COVID-19 Time Series Analysis Special Track:* The COVID-19 pandemic is impacting almost everyone worldwide and is expected to have life-altering short and long-term effects. There are many potential applications of time series analysis and mining that can contribute to the understanding of this pandemic. We encourage the submission of high-quality manuscripts describing original problems, time-series datasets, and novel solutions for time series analysis and forecasting of COVID-19. The review process is single-round and double-blind (submission files have to be anonymized). Concurrent submissions to other journals and conferences are acceptable. Accepted papers will be presented as posters during the workshop and list on the website. Besides, a small number of accepted papers will be selected to be presented as contributed talks. AIMS AND GOAL ----------------- Privacy in statistical databases is about finding trade-offs to the tension between the increasing societal and economical demand for accurate information and the legal and ethical obligation to protect the privacy of individuals and enterprises which are the respondents providing the statistical data. In the case of statistical databases, the motivation for respondent privacy is one of survival: statistical agencies or survey institutes cannot expect to collect accurate information from individual or corporate respondents unless these feel the privacy of their responses is guaranteed. Beyond respondent privacy, there are two additional privacy dimensions to be considered: privacy for the data owners (organizations owning or gathering the data, who would not like to share the data they have collected at great expense) and privacy for the users (those who submit queries to the database and would like their analyses to stay private). Workflow management systems (WMSs) provide abstraction and automation which enable a broad range of researchers to easily define sophisticated computational processes and to then execute them efficiently on parallel and distributed computing systems. As workflows have been adopted by a number of scientific communities, they are becoming more complex and require more sophisticated workflow management capabilities. A workflow now can analyze terabyte-scale data sets, be composed of one million individual tasks, require coordination between heterogeneous tasks, manage tasks that execute for milliseconds to hours, and can process data streams, files, and data placed in object stores. The computations can be single core workloads, loosely coupled computations, or tightly all within a single workflow, and can run in dispersed computing platforms. This workshop focuses on the many facets of scientific workflow management systems, ranging from actual execution to service management and the coordination and optimization of data, service, and job dependencies. The workshop covers a broad range of issues in the scientific workflow lifecycle that include: scientific workflows representation and enactment; workflow scheduling techniques to optimize the execution of the workflow on heterogeneous infrastructures; workflow enactment engines that need to deal with failures in the application and execution environment; and a number of computer science problems related to scientific workflows such as semantic technologies, compiler methods, scheduling and fault detection and tolerance. WORKS20 will be held in conjunction with the SuperComputing (SC20), Atlanta, Georgia, USA, at Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC). Since 1994, he has been a Professor at the Department of Informatics of the same University. He served as a Visiting Professor at several Universities. His current interests are in the areas of image/video processing, machine learning, computer vision, intelligent digital media, human centered interfaces, affective computing, 3D imaging and biomedical imaging. He has published over 1138 papers, contributed in 50 books in his areas of interest and edited or (co-)authored another 11 books. He has also been member of the program committee of many scientific conferences and workshops. In the past he served as Associate Editor or co-Editor of 9 international journals and General or Technical Chair of 4 international conferences. He participated in 70 R&D projects, primarily funded by the European Union and is/was principal investigator/researcher in 42 such projects. He has 30000+ citations to his work and h-index 81+ (Google Scholar). Cloud providers need to manage complex infrastructures in a seamless fashion to support the highly dynamic and heterogeneous workloads and hosted applications customers deploy. Similarly, HPC environments have been increasingly adopting techniques that enable flexible management of vast computing and networking resources, close to marginal provisioning cost, which is unprecedented in the history of scientific and commercial computing. Most recently, Function as a Service (Faas) and Serverless computing, utilizing lightweight VMs-containers widens the spectrum of applications that can be deployed in a cloud environment, especially in an HPC context. Here, HPC-provided services become accessible to distributed workloads outside of large cluster environments. Various virtualization-containerization technologies contribute to the overall picture in different ways: machine virtualization, with its capability to enable consolidation of multiple underutilized servers with heterogeneous software and operating systems (OSes), and its capability to live-migrate a fully operating virtual machine (VM) with a very short downtime, enables novel and dynamic ways to manage physical servers; OS-level virtualization (i.e., containerization), with its capability to isolate multiple user-space environments and to allow for their coexistence within the same OS kernel, promises to provide many of the advantages of machine virtualization with high levels of responsiveness and performance; lastly, unikernels provide for many virtualization benefits with a minimized OS/library surface. I/O Virtualization in turn allows physical network interfaces to take traffic from multiple VMs or containers; network virtualization, with its capability to create logical network overlays that are independent of the underlying physical topology is furthermore enabling virtualization of HPC infrastructures. GraMSec 2020: The Seventh International Workshop on Graphical Models for Security http://gramsec.uni.lu June 22, 2020 *Online event* Co-located with CSF 2020 *LNCS post-proceedings confirmed* SCOPE The use of graphical security models to represent and analyse the security of systems has gained an increasing research attention over the last two decades. Formal methods and computer security researchers, as well as security professionals from the industry and government, have proposed various graphical security models, metrics, and measurements. Graphical models are used to capture different security facets and address a range of challenges including security assessment, automated defence, secure services composition, security policy validation, and verification. The International Workshop on Graphical Models for Security is an established scientific event dedicated to study and exchange of experiences on graphical security and safety modelling. TOPICS This year, we encourage excellent submissions related, but not restricted, to the following broad headings: 1. Graph representations: mathematical, conceptual, and implemented tools for describing and reasoning about security and safety 2. Logical approaches: formal logical tools for representing and reasoning about graphs and their use as modelling tools in security 3. Machine learning: modelling and reasoning about the role of big data and machine learning in security operations 4. Networks in national security: terrorist networks, counter-terrorism networks; safety in national infrastructure (e.g., utilities and transportation) 5. Risk analysis and management: models and graphical methodologies for security and privacy risk management in business and organisational architectures 6. Social networks: using and reasoning about social graphs, network analysis, network protocols, social mapping, sociometry. 7. Semantics: developing or studying semantic approaches to graph-based models used in security like set theoretic models, categorical models, logical models, etc. 8. Threat modelling: modelling and analysing software systems security, models for DevSecOps, etc. 9. Security requirements: models and tools for describing and analysing requirements on system security and privacy. 10. Visual security: modelling and analytics for security visualisations. 11. Secure systems: safe and secure system design, quantification of security/safety, models for system security/safety evaluation. We welcome a broad range of contributions: from theory to tools and experience reports. Preference will be given to papers likely to stimulate high-quality debate at the Workshop. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES We solicit two types of submissions: - Regular papers (up to 18 pages, excluding the bibliography and well-marked appendices) describing original and unpublished work within the scope of the workshop. - Short papers (up to 10 pages, excluding the bibliography and well-marked appendices) describing original and unpublished work in progress. The reviewers are not required to read the appendices, so the papers should be intelligible without them. All submissions must be prepared using the LNCS style. AIMS AND GOAL ----------------- Privacy in statistical databases is about finding trade-offs to the tension between the increasing societal and economical demand for accurate information and the legal and ethical obligation to protect the privacy of individuals and enterprises which are the respondents providing the statistical data. Dear Collegue, I hope to find yourself in good health. Inside the 20th International Conference on Computational Science and Its Application, to be held in Cagliari, Italy in July 1-4 2020, we organized the workshop: Advanced Transport Tools and Methods - A2TM http://www.iccsa.org/workshops The Local Organizing Commitee is doing a great job laying the foundation for a great conference. We are not experts on epidemics and, in order to be sure, it is better to observe the evolution of the phenomenon in order to take better decisions. For this reason we decided new deadlines: Â·Â Â Â Â Â Â full paper submission 26 April 2020 for our Workshop Transport and Mo, the sessions can have different deadlines; Â·Â Â Â Â Â Â notification of Acceptance 24 May 2020; Â·Â Â Â Â Â Â submission deadline for camera ready paper and registration 15 June 2020. In last days the submission flow increased a lot, this means that in all cases the proceedings (Springer LNCS) will be published. Due to the deadline extension, the volumes will be published after the conference. [Apologies for Duplicate Emails] Please consider submitting your manuscripts to the special issue on "Deep Learning for the Internet of Things" with MDPI Electronics The Special Issue Theme: The recent advancements in artificial intelligence; machine learning; and, more importantly, deep learning, with its many variations of algorithms and platforms, have radically transformed conventional software applications into a set of smart and connected components with the capability of data-driven decision-making; intelligent data sensing and filtering; proactive and collaborative integration of software and hardware devices; and, more importantly, the ability to capture tons of useful interaction data. Machine and deep learning-based components are becoming the backbone of modern systems such as cyber-physical systems (CPS) and Internet of Things (IoT), where intelligent integrations and collaborations of smart devices along with their outstanding data collection capabilities make them a perfect application domain for such sophisticated learning algorithms. The beauty of smart and connected devices governed by software utilities has already been demonstrated in several application domains such as healthcare, agriculture and farming, manufacturing, smart buildings, transportation, energy, and environmental surveillance monitoring systems. While these IoT-based systems can capture a good amount of data, the usage of these valuable and hard-to-produce data are not being fully utilized. Deep learning enables one to explore these data in further detail and capturing the hidden relationships that may exist among their key factors and parameters, thus providing further insight into the underlying application domains. Furthermore, deep learning algorithms are also capable of addressing challenging problems that are natural in IoT but remain unsolved in systems such as real time optimization problems, modeling non-linear characteristics of IoT devices and components, and several instances of prediction and classification problems. This Special Issue aims to foster deep learning-based modeling, solutions, and approaches to problems in Internet of Things systems. It seeks to explore deep learning algorithms, including generative adversarial models, attention-based networks, deep reinforcement learning, and recurrent deep neural networks, in capturing features and modeling the behavior of the involved software and hardware components. In regard to the calendar of events promoted by Ada-Europe: - Santander, Spain, will be the venue of the next Ada-Europe International Conference on Reliable Software Technologies in June 2021. - The venue originally earmarked for the 2021 edition of the AEiC, Ghent, Belgium, will be the prime candidate to host the 2022 edition of the conference. - Selected elements of the technical program of the 2020 conference program will be considered for presentation at an Ada event co-organized with the International Real-Time Ada Workshop (IRTAW 2020), now tentatively postponed to late October 2020, near Valencia, Spain. The details of that event will be announced in due course, contingent on the lifting of current sanitary restrictions. In regard to the elements of the 2020 conference program: - The processing of the Journal-track submissions continues seamlessly, with a view to ensuring prompt open-access publication to those that gain acceptance. Dear Colleague/Professor, this message is sent to you, as several Universities switch to tele-education, in reaction to COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of my very long University teaching career, complemented by rich dissemination activities in many European funded R&D projects, we have developed a long list of educational material (100+ 1-hour lecture ppts, more under development) and student assessment tools that allow tele-education of one or more of the following senior undergraduate/MSc/PhD full-semester courses: 1) Computer Vision 2) Machine Learning 3) Autonomous Systems 4) Image Processing and Analysis 5) Video Processing and Analysis 6) Human-Centered Computing 7) Social Media Analysis. Correctness and execution efficiency, in spite of faults, errors, and failures, is essential to ensure the success of the HPC systems, cluster computing environments, Grid computing infrastructures, and Cloud computing services. The impact of faults, errors, and failures in such HPC systems can range from financial losses due to system downtime (sometimes several tens-of-thousands of Dollars per lost system-hour), to financial losses due to unnecessary overprovision (acquisition and operating costs), to financial losses and legal liabilities due to erroneous or delayed output. The emergence of AI technology opens up new possibilities, but also new problems. Using AI technology for operational intelligence that enables resilience in HPC systems and centers is a complex control problem, while designing resilient AI technology for HPC applications is a difficult algorithmic problem. Resilience for HPC systems encompasses a wide spectrum of fundamental and applied research and development, including theoretical foundations, error/failure and anomaly detection, monitoring and control, end-to-end data integrity, enabling infrastructure, and resilient algorithms. This workshop brings together experts in the community to further research and development in HPC resilience and to facilitate exchanges across the computational paradigms of extreme-scale HPC, cluster computing, Grid computing, and Cloud computing. K. Clifford’s geometric algebras (GA), quaternions and octonions in solving computer graphics and vision problems. In the meantime, the geometric algebra community focused on GA applications and greatly advanced it as an adequate and viable computing technology. The Workshops at CGI’2016 on “Geometric Algebra in Computer Science and Engineering” and at CGI’2017, 2018, 2019 on “Empowering Novel Geometric Algebra for Graphics & Engineering” began to bridge that gap. Under the auspices of *CGI’20 (22-25 June), ENGAGE (Empowering Novel Geometric Algebra for Graphics & Engineering) on June 23rd in Geneva, Switzerland*, will again engage in a multi-disciplinary approach from mathematics, applied to computer graphics, computer vision and general computer science fields where GA has strong potential to answer existing mathematical problems. AIMS AND GOAL ----------------- Privacy in statistical databases is about finding trade-offs to the tension between the increasing societal and economical demand for accurate information and the legal and ethical obligation to protect the privacy of individuals and enterprises which are the respondents providing the statistical data. In the case of statistical databases, the motivation for respondent privacy is one of survival: statistical agencies or survey institutes cannot expect to collect accurate information from individual or corporate respondents unless these feel the privacy of their responses is guaranteed. Various virtualization-containerization technologies contribute to the overall picture in different ways: machine virtualization, with its capability to enable consolidation of multiple underutilized servers with heterogeneous software and operating systems (OSes), and its capability to live-migrate a fully operating virtual machine (VM) with a very short downtime, enables novel and dynamic ways to manage physical servers; OS-level virtualization (i.e., containerization), with its capability to isolate multiple user-space environments and to allow for their coexistence within the same OS kernel, promises to provide many of the advantages of machine virtualization with high levels of responsiveness and performance; lastly, unikernels provide for many virtualization benefits with a minimized OS/library surface. I/O Virtualization in turn allows physical network interfaces to take traffic from multiple VMs or containers; network virtualization, with its capability to create logical network overlays that are independent of the underlying physical topology is furthermore enabling virtualization of HPC infrastructures. SDM/IBM EARLY CAREER DATA MINING RESEARCHER AWARD About the Award: The SDM/IBM Early Career Data Mining Researcher Award for Excellence in Data Analytics seeks to recognize one individual (no runner up/ honorable mention) who has made outstanding, influential, and lasting contributions in the field of data analysis and who will be within 10 years of having received their PhD degree as of the calendar year prior to the year of the award. For example, an award winner in 2020 should have received their PhD no earlier than 2009. Nominations: A candidate may be nominated by any member of the community except members of the Award Selection Committee. An individual may nominate at most one candidate for this award. Image and Vision Computing CALL FOR PAPERS Special Issue on Advances in Domain Adaptation for Computer Vision Aim and Scope: In daily routines, humans, not only learn and apply knowledge for visual tasks but also have intrinsic abilities to transfer knowledge between related vision tasks. For example, if a new vision task is relevant to any previous learning, it is possible to transfer the learned knowledge for handling the new vision task. In developing new computer vision algorithms, it is desired to utilize these capabilities to make the algorithms adaptable. Generally, traditional computer vision methods do not adapt to a new task and have to learn the new task from the beginning. These methods do not consider that the two visual tasks may be related and the knowledge gained in one may be applied to learn the other one efficiently in lesser time. Domain adaptation for computer vision is the area of research, which attempts to mimic this human behavior by transferring the knowledge learned in one or more source domains and use it for learning the related visual processing task in the target domain. Recent advances in domain adaptation, particularly in cotraining, transfer learning, and online learning have benefited computer vision research significantly. For example, learning from high-resolution source domain images and transferring the knowledge to learning low-resolution target domain information. This special issue will focus on the recent advances in domain adaptation for different computer vision tasks. The Workshops at CGI’2016 on “Geometric Algebra in Computer Science and Engineering” and at CGI’2017, 2018, 2019 on “Empowering Novel Geometric Algebra for Graphics & Engineering” began to bridge that gap. Under the auspices of *CGI’20 *(22-25 June), ENGAGE (Empowering Novel Geometric Algebra for Graphics & Engineering) on *June 23rd* in Geneva, Switzerland, will again engage in a multi-disciplinary approach from mathematics, applied to computer graphics, computer vision and general computer science fields where GA has strong potential to answer existing mathematical problems. Deadline: PDSEC-20 deadline (extended): 14 Feb 2020 (AoE) Scope and Interests: The technological trends in HPC system evolution indicates an increasing burden placed on application developers due to the management of the unprecedented complexity levels of hardware and its associated performance characteristics. Many existing scientific applications codes are unlikely to perform well on future systems without major modifications or even complete rewrites. In the future, it will be necessary to utilize, in concert, many characteristics such as multiple levels of parallelism, many lightweight cores, complex memory hierarchies, novel I/O technology, power capping, system-wide temporal/spatial performance heterogeneity and reliability concerns. The parallel and distributed computing community has developed new programming models, algorithms, libraries and tools to meet these challenges in order to accommodate productive code development and effective system use. However, the scientific application community still needs to identify the benefit through practical evaluations. [Please accept our apologies for multiple postings.] -- NEWS: DEADLINE FOR PROPOSALS EXTENDED TO FEBRUARY 7th -- The 29th International ACM Symposium on High-Performance Parallel and Distributed Computing (HPDC'20) Stockholm, Sweden, June 23-26, 2020 Sponsored by ACM SIGARCH http://www.hpdc.org/2020/workshops/call-for-workshops/ Overview The organizers of the 29th International ACM Symposium on High-Performance Parallel and Distributed Computing (HPDC'20) call for proposals for Workshops to be held the day preceding the main conference (June 23). The HPDC Workshops provide forums for discussion among researchers and practitioners on focused topics and/or emerging research areas relevant to HPDC. Workshops typically include some combination of invited talks, peer-reviewed papers, panel discussions, and work-in-progress talks. Proposers should design workshops for approximately 20-40 participants, lasting either one full day or one-half day, depending on interest and space constraints. Proposals for workshops on new topics are welcome, as are proposals to continue previously successful workshops. HPDC workshops proceedings will be published by ACM in the HPDC proceedings companion book. We also welcome proposals for agency PI meetings, of technical tutorials, or of user-group meetings that would engage HPDC attendees. Proposal Submission To Submit: Please email your proposal to Antonino Tumeo (antonino.tumeo(a)pnnl.gov) with the title "HPDC Workshop Proposal" Formatting Guidelines * Workshop proposals should be formatted as a single PDF document of 2-4 pages, describing the following: * The full name and acronym of the workshop * A description of the theme of the workshop and its key topics – proposers should be particularly careful in highlighting the focused nature of the theme of workshop * A description of the link to and relevance of the workshop for HPDC – proposers should highlight how their proposed event can complete or completement the main program of HPDC * Whether the workshop is intended for one full day or for one half day * A summary of the intended audience * A description of the intended structure of the workshop (peer-reviewed articles, invited articles, invited talks, panels, etc.) * Details of the review process leading to acceptance to present in the workshop * If the workshop will have a call for papers, a tentative version of such CFP (which can reference to the description and theme of the workshop) * Tentative list of program committee members, if peer-review is to be used * Proposed names for invited speakers and panelists (if invited talks and panels are to be held), and their impacts on the topics discussed at the workshop * If workshop is going to have published papers, type of papers to be accepted and their length * A plan for attracting submissions and attendees to the workshop * A brief biographical information on the workshop organizers * Data about previous editions of the workshop (if any) including attendance, number of papers submitted and accepted Accepted workshops will need to be ready to set up a website and, if a paper submission process with peer review is going to be used, provide the submission link. Many real-world analytic workloads are a mix of graph and machine learning methods. Graphs play an important role in the synthesis and analysis of relationships and organizational structures, furthering the ability of machine-learning methods to identify signature features. Given the difference in the parallel execution models of graph algorithms and machine learning methods, current tools, runtime systems, and architectures do not deliver consistently good performance across data analysis workflows. In this workshop we are interested in graphs, how their synthesis (representation) and analysis is supported in hardware and software, and the ways graph algorithms interact with machine learning. The workshop’s scope is broad and encompasses the wide range of methods used in large-scale data analytics workflows. This workshop seeks papers on the theory, model-based analysis, simulation, and analysis of operational data for graph analytics and related machine learning applications. In particular, we are interested, but not limited to the following topics: • Provide tractability and performance analysis in terms of complexity, time-to-solution, problem size, and quality of solution for systems that deal with mixed data analytics workflows; • Discuss the problem domains and problems addressable with graph methods, machine learning methods, or both; • Discuss programming models and associated frameworks such as Pregel, Galois, Boost, GraphBLAS, GraphChi, etc., for building large multi-attributed graphs; • Discuss how frameworks for building graph algorithms interact with those for building machine learning algorithms; • Discuss hardware platforms specialized for addressing large, dynamic, multi-attributed graphs and associated machine learning; Besides regular papers, short papers (up to four pages) describing work-in-progress or incomplete but sound, innovative ideas related to the workshop theme are also encouraged.
