The main purpose of the PCT’2021 conference is to provide an opportunity to report and discuss the results achieved by leading research groups in solving practical issues using supercomputer and neural network technologies. The scope of the conference covers all aspects of the application of cloud, supercomputer and neural network technologies in science and technology such as applications, hardware and software, specific languages and packages. The 34th edition of Top50 of the CIS's most powerful computers will be announced on the first day of the conference. On working days of the conference, a supercomputer exhibition will be organized, where leading manufacturers of hardware and software present their latest products in the field of high performance computing. LANGUAGE The official languages of the Conference are Russian and English. SCOPE The scope of the conference includes, but not limited to, the following topics: * Parallel and distributed computing technologies * Cloud computing * Prospective multiprocessor architectures * Parallel and distributed database systems * High performance data mining * Artificial neural networks and deep learning * Management, administration, monitoring and testing of multiprocessor systems * Computational Mathematics * Computational Physics * Computational Chemistry * Gas hydrodynamics and heat transfer * High nonlinear and rapid processes in mechanics * Bioinformatics and medicine * Nanotechnology * Geoinformatics * Cryptography * Image processing and visualization * Computer algebra * Supercomputer education. CALL FOR PAPERS PCT’2021 admits papers presenting original contribution that have not been previously published and are not being submitted to another conference or journal. There are three categories of submissions: * Full paper describes the results of completed scientific research (12 to 15 pages in the LNCS one-column page format). * Short paper reports preliminary results of uncompleted scientific research (up to 12 pages in the LNCS one-column page format). * Abstract of the poster contains information about plans and initial results of recently started scientific research (one standard A4 page). Papers may be prepared in LaTeX or MS Word according to the LNCS one-column page format (see guidelines at the conference website http://agora.guru.ru/pavt2021/, "For Authors" section). Papers should be submitted electronically in PDF format through EasyChair system https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=pct2021 by December 1, 2020. Each paper will be reviewed by three Program Committee members and/or invited experts to ensure high quality and relevance to the conference. The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) is now accepting applications for Cohort VI (2021-2023) of the Postdoctoral Fellowship for Faculty Diversity. All application materials must be received by October 2 2020 via Interfolio, to start fellowships in July 2021. UMBC’s Postdoctoral Fellowship for Faculty Diversity is a 2-year in-residence fellowship that supports promising scholars who are committed to diversity and inclusive excellence in the academy and to prepare those scholars for possible tenure-track appointments at UMBC. During the two-year appointment, UMBC provides fellows with teaching and research mentors, and professional development opportunities across campus. IA^3 2020 10th Workshop on Irregular Applications: Architectures and Algorithms http://hpc.pnl.gov/IA3 November 11, 2020 Virtual Workshop In conjunction with SC20 Sponsored by IEEE TCHPC -------------------- Call for Papers -------------------- Irregular applications occur in many subject matters. While inherently parallel, they exhibit highly variable execution performance at a local level due to unpredictable memory access patterns and/or network transfers, divergent control structures, and data imbalances. Moreover, they often require fine-grain synchronization and communication on large-data structures such as graphs, trees, unstructured grids, sparse matrices, deep nets, tables, and their combinations (such as, for example, attributed graphs). They have a significant degree of latent parallelism, which however is difficult to exploit due to their complex behavior. Current high performance architectures rely on data locality and regular computation to reduce access latencies, and often do not cope well with the requirements of these applications. Furthermore, irregular applications are difficult to scale on current supercomputing machines, due to their limits in fine-grained synchronization and small data transfers. Irregular applications pertain both to well established and emerging fields, such as machine learning, social network analysis, bioinformatics, semantic graph databases, Computer Aided Design (CAD), and computer security. Many of these application areas also process massive sets of unstructured data, which keep growing exponentially. Emerging supercomputing applications are moving towards a convergence of scientific simulation, data analytics, and learning algorithms, mixed in various ways. Addressing the issues of irregular applications on current and future architectures will become critical to solve the challenges in science and data analysis of the next few years. This workshop seeks to explore solutions for supporting efficient execution of irregular applications in the form of new features at the level of the micro- and system-architecture, network, languages and libraries, runtimes, compilers, analysis, algorithms. Topics of interest, of both theoretical and practical significance, include but are not limited to: - Micro- and System-architectures, including multi- and many-core designs, heterogeneous processors, accelerators (GPUs, vector processors, Automata processor), reconfigurable (coarse grained reconfigurable and FPGA designs) and custom processors - Network architectures and interconnect (including high-radix networks, optical interconnects) - Novel memory architectures and designs (including processors-in memory) - Impact of new computing paradigms on irregular workloads (including neuromorphic processors and quantum computing) - Modeling, simulation and evaluation of novel architectures with irregular workloads - Innovative algorithmic techniques - Combinatorial algorithms (graph algorithms, sparse linear algebra, etc.) - Impact of irregularity on machine learning approaches - Parallelization techniques and data structures for irregular workloads - Data structures combining regular and irregular computations (e.g., attributed graphs) - Approaches for managing massive unstructured datasets (including streaming data) - Languages and programming models for irregular workloads - Library and runtime support for irregular workloads - Compiler and analysis techniques for irregular workloads - High performance data analytics applications (including graph databases and solutions that combine graph algorithms with machine learning) - Applications that integrate scientific simulation, data analytics, and learning, and require efficient execution of irregular workloads Besides regular papers, papers describing work-in-progress or incomplete but sound, innovative ideas related to the workshop theme are also encouraged. We solicit both 8-page regular papers and 4-page position papers. --- Submission deadline extended to Sept. 7th --- ******************************************************************** Call for Participation Workshop on Hierarchical Parallelism for Exascale Computing ---HiPar20--- Held in conjunction with SC20 - virtual event In cooperation with: IEEE and TCHPC. www.hipar.net ******************************************************************** ================================ Summary ================================ High Performance Computing (HPC) platforms are evolving towards having fewer but more powerful nodes, driven by the increasing number of physical cores in multiple sockets and accelerators. The boundary between nodes and networks is starting to blur, with some nodes now containing tens of compute elements and memory sub-systems connected via a memory fabric. The immediate consequence is an increase in complexity due to ever more complex architectures (e.g., memory hierarchies), novel accelerator designs, and energy constraints. Spurred largely by this trend, hierarchical parallelism is gaining momentum. This approach embraces, rather than avoiding, the intrinsic complexity of current and future HPC systems by exploiting parallelism at all levels: compute, memory and network. This workshop focuses on hierarchical parallelism. It aims to bring together application, hardware, and software practitioners proposing new strategies to fully exploit computational hierarchies, and examples to illustrate their benefits to achieve extreme scale parallelism. ================================ Scope and Aims ================================ HiPar20 is designed to showcase new studies, approaches, and cutting-edge ideas on hierarchical parallelism for extreme-scale computing. We welcome papers and talks from the HPC community addressing the use of emerging architectures — focusing particularly on those characterized by fewer but more powerful nodes as well as systems with hierarchical network with tiered communication semantics. Specifically, the emphasis is on the design, implementation, and application of programming models for multi-level parallelism, including abstractions for hierarchical memory access, heterogeneity, multi-threading, vectorization, and energy efficiency, as well as scalability and performance studies thereof. Of particular interest are models addressing these concerns portably: providing ease of programming and maintaining performance in the presence of varied accelerators, hardware configurations, and execution models. Studies that explore the merits of specific approaches to addressing these concerns, such as generic programming or domain specific languages, are also in scope. The workshop is not limited to the traditional HPC software community. As one example, another key topic is the use of hierarchical parallelism in dealing with the challenges arising in machine learning due to the growing importance of this field, the large scale of systems tackled in that area, and the increasing interest from more traditional HPC areas. A goal of HiPar20 is to highlight not just success stories but also discuss drawbacks and challenges. HiPar20 welcomes HPC practitioners from all areas, ranging from hardware and compiler experts to algorithms and software developers, to present and discuss the state of the art in emerging approaches to utilize multi-level parallelism for extreme scale computing. ================================ Topics ================================ Submissions are encouraged in, but not limited to the following areas: * Hierarchical work scheduling and execution; * Hardware, software, and algorithmic advances for efficient use of memory hierarchies, multi-threading and vectorization; * Efficient use of nested parallelism, for example CUDA dynamic parallelism, for large scale simulations; * Programming heterogeneous nodes; * Leading-edge programming models, for example fully distributed task-based models and hybrid MPI+X, with X representing shared memory parallelism via threads, vectorization, tasking or parallel loop constructs. * Implementations of algorithms that are natural fits for nested work (for example approaches that use recursion); * Challenges and successes in managing computing hierarchies; * Examples demonstrating effective use of the combination of inter-node and intra-node parallelism; * Novel approaches leveraging asynchronous execution to maximize efficiency; * Challenges and successes of porting of existing applications to many-core and heterogeneous platforms; * Recent developments in compiler optimizations for emerging architectures; * Applications of hierarchical programming models from emerging AI fields, for example deep learning and extreme-scale data analytics. ================================ Submission Guidelines ================================ We solicit submissions in the following categories: (a) Regular research papers: Intended for submissions describing original work and ideas that have not appeared in another conference or journal, and are not currently under review for any other conference or journal. Regular papers must be at least (6) and must not exceed (10) letter size pages (U.S. letter – 8.5"x11"). Accepted regular papers will be published in the workshop proceedings in cooperation with IEEE TCHPC. (b) Short papers: Intended for material that is not mature enough for a full paper, to present novel, interesting ideas or preliminary results that will be formally submitted elsewhere. Short papers must not exceed four (4) pages. Short papers will NOT be included in the proceedings. Apologies for the multiple copies of this. ******************************************************************** Call for Participation Workshop on Hierarchical Parallelism for Exascale Computing ---HiPar20--- Held in conjunction with SC20 - virtual event In cooperation with: IEEE and TCHPC. www.hipar.net ******************************************************************** ================================ Summary ================================ High Performance Computing (HPC) platforms are evolving towards having fewer but more powerful nodes, driven by the increasing number of physical cores in multiple sockets and accelerators. The boundary between nodes and networks is starting to blur, with some nodes now containing tens of compute elements and memory sub-systems connected via a memory fabric. The immediate consequence is an increase in complexity due to ever more complex architectures (e.g., memory hierarchies), novel accelerator designs, and energy constraints. Spurred largely by this trend, hierarchical parallelism is gaining momentum. This approach embraces, rather than avoiding, the intrinsic complexity of current and future HPC systems by exploiting parallelism at all levels: compute, memory and network. This workshop focuses on hierarchical parallelism. It aims to bring together application, hardware, and software practitioners proposing new strategies to fully exploit computational hierarchies, and examples to illustrate their benefits to achieve extreme scale parallelism. ================================ Scope and Aims ================================ HiPar20 is designed to showcase new studies, approaches, and cutting-edge ideas on hierarchical parallelism for extreme-scale computing. We welcome papers and talks from the HPC community addressing the use of emerging architectures — focusing particularly on those characterized by fewer but more powerful nodes as well as systems with hierarchical network with tiered communication semantics. Specifically, the emphasis is on the design, implementation, and application of programming models for multi-level parallelism, including abstractions for hierarchical memory access, heterogeneity, multi-threading, vectorization, and energy efficiency, as well as scalability and performance studies thereof. Of particular interest are models addressing these concerns portably: providing ease of programming and maintaining performance in the presence of varied accelerators, hardware configurations, and execution models. Studies that explore the merits of specific approaches to addressing these concerns, such as generic programming or domain specific languages, are also in scope. The workshop is not limited to the traditional HPC software community. As one example, another key topic is the use of hierarchical parallelism in dealing with the challenges arising in machine learning due to the growing importance of this field, the large scale of systems tackled in that area, and the increasing interest from more traditional HPC areas. A goal of HiPar20 is to highlight not just success stories but also discuss drawbacks and challenges. HiPar20 welcomes HPC practitioners from all areas, ranging from hardware and compiler experts to algorithms and software developers, to present and discuss the state of the art in emerging approaches to utilize multi-level parallelism for extreme scale computing. ================================ Topics ================================ Submissions are encouraged in, but not limited to the following areas: * Hierarchical work scheduling and execution; * Hardware, software, and algorithmic advances for efficient use of memory hierarchies, multi-threading and vectorization; * Efficient use of nested parallelism, for example CUDA dynamic parallelism, for large scale simulations; * Programming heterogeneous nodes; * Leading-edge programming models, for example fully distributed task-based models and hybrid MPI+X, with X representing shared memory parallelism via threads, vectorization, tasking or parallel loop constructs. * Implementations of algorithms that are natural fits for nested work (for example approaches that use recursion); * Challenges and successes in managing computing hierarchies; * Examples demonstrating effective use of the combination of inter-node and intra-node parallelism; * Novel approaches leveraging asynchronous execution to maximize efficiency; * Challenges and successes of porting of existing applications to many-core and heterogeneous platforms; * Recent developments in compiler optimizations for emerging architectures; * Applications of hierarchical programming models from emerging AI fields, for example deep learning and extreme-scale data analytics. ================================ Submission Guidelines ================================ We solicit submissions in the following categories: (a) Regular research papers: Intended for submissions describing original work and ideas that have not appeared in another conference or journal, and are not currently under review for any other conference or journal. Regular papers must be at least (6) and must not exceed (10) letter size pages (U.S. letter – 8.5"x11"). Accepted regular papers will be published in the workshop proceedings in cooperation with IEEE TCHPC. (b) Short papers: Intended for material that is not mature enough for a full paper, to present novel, interesting ideas or preliminary results that will be formally submitted elsewhere. Short papers must not exceed four (4) pages. Short papers will NOT be included in the proceedings. IA^3 2020 10th Workshop on Irregular Applications: Architectures and Algorithms http://hpc.pnl.gov/IA3 November 11, 2020 Virtual Workshop In conjunction with SC20 Sponsored by IEEE TCHPC -------------------- Call for Papers -------------------- Irregular applications occur in many subject matters. While inherently parallel, they exhibit highly variable execution performance at a local level due to unpredictable memory access patterns and/or network transfers, divergent control structures, and data imbalances. Moreover, they often require fine-grain synchronization and communication on large-data structures such as graphs, trees, unstructured grids, sparse matrices, deep nets, tables, and their combinations (such as, for example, attributed graphs). They have a significant degree of latent parallelism, which however is difficult to exploit due to their complex behavior. Current high performance architectures rely on data locality and regular computation to reduce access latencies, and often do not cope well with the requirements of these applications. Furthermore, irregular applications are difficult to scale on current supercomputing machines, due to their limits in fine-grained synchronization and small data transfers. Irregular applications pertain both to well established and emerging fields, such as machine learning, social network analysis, bioinformatics, semantic graph databases, Computer Aided Design (CAD), and computer security. Many of these application areas also process massive sets of unstructured data, which keep growing exponentially. Emerging supercomputing applications are moving towards a convergence of scientific simulation, data analytics, and learning algorithms, mixed in various ways. Addressing the issues of irregular applications on current and future architectures will become critical to solve the challenges in science and data analysis of the next few years. This workshop seeks to explore solutions for supporting efficient execution of irregular applications in the form of new features at the level of the micro- and system-architecture, network, languages and libraries, runtimes, compilers, analysis, algorithms. Topics of interest, of both theoretical and practical significance, include but are not limited to: - Micro- and System-architectures, including multi- and many-core designs, heterogeneous processors, accelerators (GPUs, vector processors, Automata processor), reconfigurable (coarse grained reconfigurable and FPGA designs) and custom processors - Network architectures and interconnect (including high-radix networks, optical interconnects) - Novel memory architectures and designs (including processors-in memory) - Impact of new computing paradigms on irregular workloads (including neuromorphic processors and quantum computing) - Modeling, simulation and evaluation of novel architectures with irregular workloads - Innovative algorithmic techniques - Combinatorial algorithms (graph algorithms, sparse linear algebra, etc.) - Impact of irregularity on machine learning approaches - Parallelization techniques and data structures for irregular workloads - Data structures combining regular and irregular computations (e.g., attributed graphs) - Approaches for managing massive unstructured datasets (including streaming data) - Languages and programming models for irregular workloads - Library and runtime support for irregular workloads - Compiler and analysis techniques for irregular workloads - High performance data analytics applications (including graph databases and solutions that combine graph algorithms with machine learning) - Applications that integrate scientific simulation, data analytics, and learning, and require efficient execution of irregular workloads Besides regular papers, papers describing work-in-progress or incomplete but sound, innovative ideas related to the workshop theme are also encouraged. We solicit both 8-page regular papers and 4-page position papers. Note that differently from the main conferene, this additional page is voluntary (not mandatory - i.e., if a paper has no computational results, do not attach it) for the workshop, and must focus only on details on software environments and methods to execute the experiments. It should not add details on the proposed technical approaches. Additionally, authors of accepted regular papers will be invited to formally submit their supporting materials to the Artifact Evaluation (AE) process. The process is voluntary, but authors that will participate in the AE will be eligible for the Best Paper Award of the workshop. Supporting materials for the AE include access to the actual software artifact, shared publicly (for example, through the CK - Collective Knowledge - https://github.com/ctuning/ck format), and two (2) further additional pages of the paper that details how to reproduce the results of the paper. The deadline to submit a presentation proposal to the Maple Conference 2020 is coming up quickly! Proposals are due on Aug. 16, 2020. Please see the Call for Presentations, below, for details. Call for Presentations Maple Conference 2020 invites submissions of proposals for presentations on a range of topics related to Maple, falling into three broad categories: Maple in Education Topics could include, but are not limited to: * Effective ways to use Maple as a tool to support remote learning or hybrid courses * Innovative uses of Maple in the classroom (new ways to approach old problems, methods for using Maple to teach courses outside of traditional core math, impact on the curriculum, etc.) * Measurable improvements in student performance after integrating Maple into a course * Classroom tips and techniques/best practices drawn from experience Algorithms and Software Topics could include, but are not limited to: * Symbolic and symbolic-numeric methods for solving mathematical problems, from any field * Algorithm optimization and performance tuning techniques * Effective use of types and data representations for particular problems or domains * User interfaces for mathematical problem solving Applications of Maple Topics could include, but are not limited to: * Applications that use Maple in unusual settings or in unusual ways * Applications that push or extend the limit of what Maple can do * Applications that explore critical world problems * Applications that combine Maple with other technology All presentation proposals will be reviewed by the conference organizing committee. ******************************************************************** Call for Participation Workshop on Hierarchical Parallelism for Exascale Computing ---HiPar20--- Held in conjunction with SC20 - virtual event In cooperation with: IEEE and TCHPC. www.hipar.net ******************************************************************** ================================ Summary ================================ High Performance Computing (HPC) platforms are evolving towards having fewer but more powerful nodes, driven by the increasing number of physical cores in multiple sockets and accelerators. The boundary between nodes and networks is starting to blur, with some nodes now containing tens of compute elements and memory sub-systems connected via a memory fabric. The immediate consequence is an increase in complexity due to ever more complex architectures (e.g., memory hierarchies), novel accelerator designs, and energy constraints. Spurred largely by this trend, hierarchical parallelism is gaining momentum. This approach embraces, rather than avoiding, the intrinsic complexity of current and future HPC systems by exploiting parallelism at all levels: compute, memory and network. This workshop focuses on hierarchical parallelism. It aims to bring together application, hardware, and software practitioners proposing new strategies to fully exploit computational hierarchies, and examples to illustrate their benefits to achieve extreme scale parallelism. ================================ Scope and Aims ================================ HiPar20 is designed to showcase new studies, approaches, and cutting-edge ideas on hierarchical parallelism for extreme-scale computing. We welcome papers and talks from the HPC community addressing the use of emerging architectures — focusing particularly on those characterized by fewer but more powerful nodes as well as systems with hierarchical network with tiered communication semantics. Specifically, the emphasis is on the design, implementation, and application of programming models for multi-level parallelism, including abstractions for hierarchical memory access, heterogeneity, multi-threading, vectorization, and energy efficiency, as well as scalability and performance studies thereof. Of particular interest are models addressing these concerns portably: providing ease of programming and maintaining performance in the presence of varied accelerators, hardware configurations, and execution models. Studies that explore the merits of specific approaches to addressing these concerns, such as generic programming or domain specific languages, are also in scope. The workshop is not limited to the traditional HPC software community. As one example, another key topic is the use of hierarchical parallelism in dealing with the challenges arising in machine learning due to the growing importance of this field, the large scale of systems tackled in that area, and the increasing interest from more traditional HPC areas. A goal of HiPar20 is to highlight not just success stories but also discuss drawbacks and challenges. HiPar20 welcomes HPC practitioners from all areas, ranging from hardware and compiler experts to algorithms and software developers, to present and discuss the state of the art in emerging approaches to utilize multi-level parallelism for extreme scale computing. ================================ Topics ================================ Submissions are encouraged in, but not limited to the following areas: * Hierarchical work scheduling and execution; * Hardware, software, and algorithmic advances for efficient use of memory hierarchies, multi-threading and vectorization; * Efficient use of nested parallelism, for example CUDA dynamic parallelism, for large scale simulations; * Programming heterogeneous nodes; * Leading-edge programming models, for example fully distributed task-based models and hybrid MPI+X, with X representing shared memory parallelism via threads, vectorization, tasking or parallel loop constructs. * Implementations of algorithms that are natural fits for nested work (for example approaches that use recursion); * Challenges and successes in managing computing hierarchies; * Examples demonstrating effective use of the combination of inter-node and intra-node parallelism; * Novel approaches leveraging asynchronous execution to maximize efficiency; * Challenges and successes of porting of existing applications to many-core and heterogeneous platforms; * Recent developments in compiler optimizations for emerging architectures; * Applications of hierarchical programming models from emerging AI fields, for example deep learning and extreme-scale data analytics. ================================ Submission Guidelines ================================ We solicit submissions in the following categories: (a) Regular research papers: Intended for submissions describing original work and ideas that have not appeared in another conference or journal, and are not currently under review for any other conference or journal. While inherently parallel, they exhibit highly variable execution performance at a local level due to unpredictable memory access patterns and/or network transfers, divergent control structures, and data imbalances. Moreover, they often require fine-grain synchronization and communication on large-data structures such as graphs, trees, unstructured grids, sparse matrices, deep nets, tables, and their combinations (such as, for example, attributed graphs). They have a significant degree of latent parallelism, which however is difficult to exploit due to their complex behavior. Current high performance architectures rely on data locality and regular computation to reduce access latencies, and often do not cope well with the requirements of these applications. Furthermore, irregular applications are difficult to scale on current supercomputing machines, due to their limits in fine-grained synchronization and small data transfers. Irregular applications pertain both to well established and emerging fields, such as machine learning, social network analysis, bioinformatics, semantic graph databases, Computer Aided Design (CAD), and computer security. Many of these application areas also process massive sets of unstructured data, which keep growing exponentially. Emerging supercomputing applications are moving towards a convergence of scientific simulation, data analytics, and learning algorithms, mixed in various ways. Addressing the issues of irregular applications on current and future architectures will become critical to solve the challenges in science and data analysis of the next few years. This workshop seeks to explore solutions for supporting efficient execution of irregular applications in the form of new features at the level of the micro- and system-architecture, network, languages and libraries, runtimes, compilers, analysis, algorithms. Topics of interest, of both theoretical and practical significance, include but are not limited to: - Micro- and System-architectures, including multi- and many-core designs, heterogeneous processors, accelerators (GPUs, vector processors, Automata processor), reconfigurable (coarse grained reconfigurable and FPGA designs) and custom processors - Network architectures and interconnect (including high-radix networks, optical interconnects) - Novel memory architectures and designs (including processors-in memory) - Impact of new computing paradigms on irregular workloads (including neuromorphic processors and quantum computing) - Modeling, simulation and evaluation of novel architectures with irregular workloads - Innovative algorithmic techniques - Combinatorial algorithms (graph algorithms, sparse linear algebra, etc.) - Impact of irregularity on machine learning approaches - Parallelization techniques and data structures for irregular workloads - Data structures combining regular and irregular computations (e.g., attributed graphs) - Approaches for managing massive unstructured datasets (including streaming data) - Languages and programming models for irregular workloads - Library and runtime support for irregular workloads - Compiler and analysis techniques for irregular workloads - High performance data analytics applications (including graph databases and solutions that combine graph algorithms with machine learning) - Applications that integrate scientific simulation, data analytics, and learning, and require efficient execution of irregular workloads Besides regular papers, papers describing work-in-progress or incomplete but sound, innovative ideas related to the workshop theme are also encouraged. We solicit both 8-page regular papers and 4-page position papers. That's right, Maple Conference 2020 is happening November 2-6, 2020. This conference is dedicated to exploring different aspects of the math software Maple, including Maple's impact on education, new symbolic computation algorithms and techniques, and the wide range of Maple applications. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the latest research, share experiences, and interact with Maple developers. The conference will take place online, and will include live presentations and discussions as well as and recordings and chatrooms, in order to accommodate time zones. Maplesoft staff will also offer Maple training sessions on a variety of topics during the conference. Call for Presentations Maple Conference 2020 invites submissions of proposals for presentations on a range of topics related to Maple, falling into three broad categories: Maple in Education Topics could include, but are not limited to: * Effective ways to use Maple as a tool to support remote learning or hybrid courses * Innovative uses of Maple in the classroom (new ways to approach old problems, methods for using Maple to teach courses outside of traditional core math, impact on the curriculum, etc.) * Measurable improvements in student performance after integrating Maple into a course * Classroom tips and techniques/best practices drawn from experience Algorithms and Software Topics could include, but are not limited to: * Symbolic and symbolic-numeric methods for solving mathematical problems, from any field * Algorithm optimization and performance tuning techniques * Effective use of types and data representations for particular problems or domains * User interfaces for mathematical problem solving Applications of Maple Topics could include, but are not limited to: * Applications that use Maple in unusual settings or in unusual ways * Applications that push or extend the limit of what Maple can do * Applications that explore critical world problems * Applications that combine Maple with other technology All presentation proposals will be reviewed by the conference organizing committee. The scale of cloud computing data centers is similar to the supercomputers used in High Performance Computing. Both involve millions of CPU cores, tens of thousands of accelerators like GPUs, FPGAs connected by high speed interconnects and different connection topologies. Studies have shown that the GPU utilization in HPC is often at 50%. Virtualization can be the key to increasing resource utilization and managing massive infrastructures efficiently. GPU vendors have introduced virtualized versions of GPUs. FPGAs are being deployed in virtual infrastructure. These and other developments in the field, along with future exascale systems, will provide increasing degree of virtualization within the systems. The goal of this special session is to be an opportunity to discuss and exchange research on the different virtualization technologies and how they can be efficiently applied in High Performance Computing. With my best regards, Ivan Kondov PhD Student Position (3 years 75% salary level E13) Enhancing e-mobility with artificial intelligence and uncertainty quantification Courses: Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics Topic The ability to quickly charge car batteries plays a key role in the acceptance of e-mobility. Furthermore, besides fulfilling all of the driver’s requirements, batteries should retain long life times. These challenges in e-mobility are tackled by the battery management system (BMS). To satisfactory meet all requirements, the BMS needs detailed information on battery function. Since this information is limited during operation, the BMS currently works with high safety margins that can significantly reduce battery performance. The plan of this project is to apply machine learning to the battery cells as well as the BMS to achieve an intelligent, individualized cell management that at any point uses each cell at its optimum performance based on extensive lifetime data. Initial training of an AI on a particular battery design is done in the lab using advanced equipment, collecting as much data as possible for subsequent retraining and optimization. In a second step, the BMS AI shall be implemented on simple hardware, where sufficient data is collected and stored such that the AI can be continuously improved individually for each battery cell. One key task of this thesis is to set up a model of the battery by using Gaussian Process Regression. This model (or digital twin) is used by the AI BMS. While providing efficient insight into the dynamics of the battery cell, Gaussian Process Regression enables the use of uncertainty quantification, which is then employed to obtain a more sophisticated idea of the dynamics of the developed model. In order to quantify how the cell behavior is affected by uncertainties, efficient uncertainty propagation models have to be developed and applied to the digital twin. Requirements Knowledge or experience in at least one of these methodological fields will be an advantage for the candidate: machine learning, artificial intelligence, or uncertainty quantification. Partners This project is one of 19 AI pilot projects of the Helmholtz Association. It is a joint project of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, TU München and Forschungszentrum Jülich, and the PhD student will closely collaborate with both partners. Workflow management systems (WMSs) provide abstraction and automation which enable a broad range of researchers to easily define sophisticated computational processes and to then execute them efficiently on parallel and distributed computing systems. As workflows have been adopted by a number of scientific communities, they are becoming more complex and require more sophisticated workflow management capabilities. A workflow now can analyze terabyte-scale data sets, be composed of one million individual tasks, require coordination between heterogeneous tasks, manage tasks that execute for milliseconds to hours, and can process data streams, files, and data placed in object stores. The computations can be single core workloads, loosely coupled computations, or tightly all within a single workflow, and can run in dispersed computing platforms. This workshop focuses on the many facets of scientific workflow management systems, ranging from actual execution to service management and the coordination and optimization of data, service, and job dependencies. The workshop covers a broad range of issues in the scientific workflow lifecycle that include: scientific workflows representation and enactment; workflow scheduling techniques to optimize the execution of the workflow on heterogeneous infrastructures; workflow enactment engines that need to deal with failures in the application and execution environment; and a number of computer science problems related to scientific workflows such as semantic technologies, compiler methods, scheduling and fault detection and tolerance. This includes the main conference and workshops. The accepted workshop papers must be presented by one of the authors in order to be included in the proceedings. There will be a single minimal registration fee for each accepted paper in order to cover expenses associated with organization and proceedings publication. Only one author per paper needs to register (150 euros). Lastly, the preferred presentation format for the workshop will be via a streaming presentation, with slides and pre-recorded video presentations used in exceptional situations. Overview: Resilience is a critical challenge as high performance computing (HPC) systems continue to increase component counts, individual component reliability decreases (such as due to shrinking process technology and near-threshold voltage (NTV) operation), hardware complexity increases (such as due to heterogeneous computing) and software complexity increases (such as due to complex data- and workflows, real-time requirements and integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies with traditional applications). Correctness and execution efficiency, in spite of faults, errors, and failures, is essential to ensure the success of the HPC systems, cluster computing environments, Grid computing infrastructures, and Cloud computing services. The impact of faults, errors, and failures in such HPC systems can range from financial losses due to system downtime (sometimes several tens-of-thousands of Dollars per lost system-hour), to financial losses due to unnecessary overprovision (acquisition and operating costs), to financial losses and legal liabilities due to erroneous or delayed output. The emergence of AI technology opens up new possibilities, but also new problems. Using AI technology for operational intelligence that enables resilience in HPC systems and centers is a complex control problem, while designing resilient AI technology for HPC applications is a difficult algorithmic problem. Resilience for HPC systems encompasses a wide spectrum of fundamental and applied research and development, including theoretical foundations, error/failure and anomaly detection, monitoring and control, end-to-end data integrity, enabling infrastructure, and resilient algorithms. This workshop brings together experts in the community to further research and development in HPC resilience and to facilitate exchanges across the computational paradigms of extreme-scale HPC, cluster computing, Grid computing, and Cloud computing. Submission Guidelines: Authors are invited to submit papers electronically in English in PDF format. Submitted manuscripts should be structured as technical papers and BETWEEN 10 AND 12 PAGES, including figures, tables and references, using Springer's Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) format at <http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-6-793341-0>. Papers with less than 10 or more than 12 pages will not be accepted due to publisher guidelines. Submissions should include abstract, key words and the e-mail address of the corresponding author. Release 0.11 of SARL agent programming language

Dear Colleagues. I'm glade to announce the major release of SARL version 0.11 ( www.sarl.io).SARL is a statically-typed agent-programming language. SARL aims at providing the fundamental abstractions for dealing with concurrency, distribution, interaction, decentralization, reactivity, autonomy and dynamic reconfiguration for multiagent systems. In addition to the traditional bug fixes, four major changes are available, and are briefly explained below. 1. Janus version 3Janus is the official SARL run-time environment (aka. SARL virtual machine). This release of SARL provides a MAJOR NEW IMPLEMENTATION of Janus with its version 3. In the past, the change from version 1 to version 2 was due to a total re-implementation of Janus in order to follow and support the SARL metamodel. This time, Version 3 of Janus is a total re-implementation with the SARL language, i.e. we have written the code with SARL not anymore with Java. The major benefits of the new implementation with the SARL language are: * Direct usage of the SARL concepts and statements; * Ability to generate the same SRE to different target platforms (Java, Python, etc.); * Proof-of-concept related to the capabilities of the SARL language to cover complex application’s implementation. In addition to the total re-implementation with SARL language, the software architecture of Janus was re-thinking and optimized in order to improve the global run-time performances of the SRE, and to be more modular in order to extend modules of Janus with new third-party modules (based on Bootique modules). 2. New types of participants in spacesFrom the SARL metamodel, spaces are entities in which the agents are able to interact or communicate. The agents that are part of a space are named participants. From our experience during the past years, different types of participants may be involved into a space. First, the agents constitute the largest part of these participants. Second, external software, such as an graphical user interface (GUI), may have to listen for events or emit them into a space in order to setup an interaction with the agents. Nevertheless, having only a single type of participant defined causes issues into the SARL run-time environment (SRE) when it is time to decide if a space should be destroyed or not. Indeed, the SRE is in charge of destroying the spaces when they are not used anymore (usually when there is no more agent inside). A problem occurs when all the agents have leaved the space, and only GUI remain. In this case, the SRE was not able to detect this case and to destroy the space. This issue could be seen because the SRE never stops to run, even when all the agents were killed. In order to solve this issue, two types of participants are defined: * Strong Participant: it corresponds to the regular meaning of a participant (and the default one). When a strong participant is involved into a space, the SRE cannot destroy the space. Typical strong participants are the application agents. * Weak Participant: it is a participant that is considered as optional by the SRE. In order words, when a space has only weak participants, it is considered as releasable by the SRE. Typical weak participants are GUI objects. Whatever the type of participant, they have the same level of abilities for using the space. For example, in the case of an event space, the strong and weak participants have all the abilities to emit events, and receive them. 3. New agent spawning APIThe spawning functions of the agents have encountered a big change: they are not replying anymore the unique identifier of the just spawned agents. Now, the spawning functions return void. This change was forced by the need to execute in parallel the different spawning processes when multiple agents are spawned at the same time. In this case, it is almost impossible to retreive the unique identifiers of the agents before returning from the spawning function. 4. New tool for SARL contributors: an Eclipse DSL with embedded SARLIn past, it was not so easy to install and set-up an complete and working development environment for the SARL contributors. It was due to the usage of different technologies such as Eclipse DSL, Java, Maven and Xtext. In order to have a ready-to-use environment, as much as possible, a specific Eclipse product is now available into the SARL project: sarl- dsl. This new product includes: * Regular Eclipse framework for domain specific language implementation, that includes: 1. Eclipse environment,Java development environment,Maven integration into Eclipse, andXtext libraries; * SARL compiler integration into Eclipse; * Janus run-time environment; * Eclipse Checkstyle. Berkeley Lab's Computational Research Division has an opening for a Postdoctoral Scholar to work on the BISICLES Ice Sheet Model. The Applied Numerical Algorithms Group (ANAG), in partnership with the Universities of Bristol and Swansea in the UK, is a home of BISICLES, an open-source adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) ice sheet model under development as a part of the U.S. Department of Energy-funded ProSPect SciDAC partnership (see http://bisicles.lbl.gov) You will join an interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers in extending the current BISICLES capabilities while applying the model to a range of idealized and realistic problems. ANAG develops advanced numerical algorithms and software for partial differential equations integrated with the application of the software to problems of independent scientific and engineering interest. The primary focus of our work is in the development of high-resolution and adaptive finite difference methods for partial differential equations in complex geometries with applications to DOE-mission applications including porous media flows, magnetohydrodynamics, industrial problems, climate, and fusion energy. This includes the main conference and workshops. The accepted workshop papers must be presented by one of the authors in order to be included in the proceedings. There will be a single minimal registration fee for each accepted paper in order to cover expenses associated with organization and proceedings publication. Only one author per paper needs to register (150 euros). Lastly, the preferred presentation format for the workshop will be via a streaming presentation, with slides and pre-recorded video presentations used in exceptional situations. Overview: Resilience is a critical challenge as high performance computing (HPC) systems continue to increase component counts, individual component reliability decreases (such as due to shrinking process technology and near-threshold voltage (NTV) operation), hardware complexity increases (such as due to heterogeneous computing) and software complexity increases (such as due to complex data- and workflows, real-time requirements and integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies with traditional applications). Correctness and execution efficiency, in spite of faults, errors, and failures, is essential to ensure the success of the HPC systems, cluster computing environments, Grid computing infrastructures, and Cloud computing services. The impact of faults, errors, and failures in such HPC systems can range from financial losses due to system downtime (sometimes several tens-of-thousands of Dollars per lost system-hour), to financial losses due to unnecessary overprovision (acquisition and operating costs), to financial losses and legal liabilities due to erroneous or delayed output. The emergence of AI technology opens up new possibilities, but also new problems. Using AI technology for operational intelligence that enables resilience in HPC systems and centers is a complex control problem, while designing resilient AI technology for HPC applications is a difficult algorithmic problem. Resilience for HPC systems encompasses a wide spectrum of fundamental and applied research and development, including theoretical foundations, error/failure and anomaly detection, monitoring and control, end-to-end data integrity, enabling infrastructure, and resilient algorithms. This workshop brings together experts in the community to further research and development in HPC resilience and to facilitate exchanges across the computational paradigms of extreme-scale HPC, cluster computing, Grid computing, and Cloud computing. Submission Guidelines: Authors are invited to submit papers electronically in English in PDF format. Submitted manuscripts should be structured as technical papers and BETWEEN 10 AND 12 PAGES, including figures, tables and references, using Springer's Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) format at <http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-6-793341-0>. Initiating form 2D and 3D motion models, displacement estimation as well as quality metrics for motion estimation will subsequently be detailed. One of the basic motion estimation techniques, namely block matching, will also be presented, along with three alternative, faster methods. A good overview of deep neural notion estimation will be presented. Phase correlation will be described, next followed by optical flow equation methods. Finally, a brief introduction to object detection and tracking will conclude the lecture. 2) Introduction to Machine Learning, Wednesday 20th May 2020, 17:45-18:30 EEST Summary: This lecture will cover the basic concepts of Machine Learning. Many real-world analytic workloads are a mix of graph and machine learning methods. Graphs play an important role in the synthesis and analysis of relationships and organizational structures, furthering the ability of machine-learning methods to identify signature features. Given the difference in the parallel execution models of graph algorithms and machine learning methods, current tools, runtime systems, and architectures do not deliver consistently good performance across data analysis workflows. In this workshop we are interested in graphs, how their synthesis (representation) and analysis is supported in hardware and software, and the ways graph algorithms interact with machine learning. The workshop’s scope is broad and encompasses the wide range of methods used in large-scale data analytics workflows. This workshop seeks papers on the theory, model-based analysis, simulation, and analysis of operational data for graph analytics and related machine learning applications. In particular, we are interested, but not limited to the following topics: • Provide tractability and performance analysis in terms of complexity, time-to-solution, problem size, and quality of solution for systems that deal with mixed data analytics workflows; • Discuss the problem domains and problems addressable with graph methods, machine learning methods, or both; • Discuss programming models and associated frameworks such as Pregel, Galois, Boost, GraphBLAS, GraphChi, etc., for building large multi-attributed graphs; • Discuss how frameworks for building graph algorithms interact with those for building machine learning algorithms; • Discuss hardware platforms specialized for addressing large, dynamic, multi-attributed graphs and associated machine learning; Besides regular papers, short papers (up to four pages) describing work-in-progress or incomplete but sound, innovative ideas related to the workshop theme are also encouraged. Main themes include automated process modeling, predictive process mining, application of deep learning techniques and online process mining. The workshop will count with leading researchers, engineers and scientists who are actively working on these topics. Full papers must be written in English, not exceed 12 pages and must be an original contribution, not previously published or under review. Workshop papers will be published by Springer as a post-workshop proceedings volume in the series Lecture Notes in Business Information Processing (LNBIP). ### Virtual conference Due to the exceptional circumstances of the COVID-19 outbreak, ICPM 2020 will be a fully virtual conference, with no travel involved. However, the entire program, including the co-located events, will be retained, and will not change. With the spirit of keeping the entire conference as interactive as possible, presentations will be given live using webinars. The presentations will also be broadcasted, and also available after the conference for off-line viewing. Attendees will be able to ask questions, which will be answered at the end of the each presentation. Each paper should clarify the relation of the paper to the workshop’s main topics, clearly state the problem being addressed, the goal of the work, the results achieved, and the relation to other work. Submissions must be original contributions that have not been published previously, nor already submitted to other conferences or journals in parallel with this workshop. Postdoc position at UGR: Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowship in Automation of Systematic Reviews

The University of Granada, Spain, and more specifically its Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence offers a Marie Skłodowska-Curie individual European fellowship on the automation of systematic reviews using Artificial Intelligence. Published biomedical research needs to be synthesised for health practitioners. This currently takes too long to contemporaneously enhance health care quality because the methods of evidence synthesis that bring together published studies to underpin guidance for practice have well recognised, serious delays taking on average 5 staff members over 12 months to complete a review. We postulate that artificial intelligence (AI) can assist in evidence synthesis, improving the timeliness of guidelines. The objective of this project is, using beyond state-of-the-art AI methodology, develop an integrated system using modern AI technologies to support the complete process of systematic reviews. We will validate the performance the AI-based system quantifying its accuracy, precision, heterogeneity, bias and generalizability compared to a standard meta-analysis. We wish to form an international consortium of well-established researchers with individually distinctive track records in computer science, systematic review, study quality assessment, meta-analysis, evidence grading, public health, cardiometabolic research, and various forms of evidence synthesis including both randomized and real-world data. This will allow the delivery of a much-needed, exciting, ground breaking, high-quality and impactful project. Our output will help accelerate the process of meta-analyses, evidence synthesis and transfer of research into guidelines for improving the quality of health care. So we are looking for an experienced researcher with a PhD in Computer Science, with a strong background in Information Retrieval, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing and Text Mining to be integrated in a friendly and strong research group. She/he will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team in order to automating several of the stages of systematic reviews, where all these previously disciplines must be involved. The candidate will work and live at the beautiful city of Granada, at southern Spain.
