Only papers submitted through the electronic system and strictly adhering to the relevant format will be considered for reviewing and publication. The submission may fall into the following five categories: Main Conference Theme Papers (LNCS), Special Session/Workshop Papers (LNCS or CPS), Short Papers (LNCS), and PHD Showcase Papers (CPS). MAIN CONFERENCE THEME PAPERS (LNCS) The submitted paper must be camera-ready, between 10 and 16 pages long and formatted according to the LNCS rules. WORKSHOPS PAPERS (LNCS or CPS) The submitted paper must be between 10 to 16 pages long for LNCS publication, or 7 to 11 pages for CPS publication (in such case as post-conference proceedings), and should be formatted according to the LNCS or CPS rules, respectively. Please consult the URL http://www.iccsa.org/instructions-for-authors for formatting information and templates. SHORT PAPERS (LNCS) Reporting preliminary results of ongoing research. The submitted paper must be between 7 and 9 pages long formatted according to LNCS rules. The Short Papers will be presented during the conference and will be published by LNCS. PHD SHOWCASE PAPERS (CPS) Reporting ongoing research already achieving significant results and primarily carried out by Ph.D. students and junior researchers. The submitted paper must be between 6 to 8 pages long formatted according to CPS rules. The PHD Showcase Papers will be presented during the conference and will be published by CPS as post-conference proceedings. Each paper must deal with original and unpublished work, not submitted for publication elsewhere (copyright problems fall entirely under responsibility of the authors). Each paper will be reviewed by at least three experts in the relevant field (acceptance rate was 28% in 2005, 26% in 2006 and 28% in 2007, 29% in 2008, 30% in 2009, 29% in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 30% in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018) ensuring the publication of only top quality contributions. When a paper is accepted at least one of the authors has to register to the conference and deliver the related talk. Failure to do so shall lead to rejection of the application to attend next year conference and the exclusion of the paper for the current year proceedings. Special Session "Bio-inspired computing approaches" at IWINAC 2019 (8th International Work-Conference on the Interplay between Natural and Artificial Computation), Almeria (Spain), 3-7 June, 2019 http://www.iwinac.uned.es/iwinac2019/ Overview: Bio-inspired computing methods take inspiration from nature to develop optimization and search algorithms or metaheuristics, typically in order to tackle the search of optimal solutions of complex problems in science and engineering, which usually imply a high dimensionality of the search space. Apart from the traditional evolutionary computing methods, artificial immune systems, ant algorithms or particle swarm optimization, the session is intended to focus on new bio-inspired solutions such as swarm algorithm solutions based on bee colonies, algorithms based on firefly insect behavior, artificial algae algorithm and many more, together with their combination with local search strategies or other metaheuristics. The researchers in this field must be self-critical with the boom of such new solutions, contrasting what is new and what is included in other traditional search algorithms or what novelty is provided in a new bio-inspired metaheuristic. Besides, the proposals should be competitive with other methods in the state of the art. The aim is that the session provides a meeting point for IWINAC attendees and researchers who have a current or developing interest in bio-inspired approaches and their applications. Topics of interest include (but are not restricted to): • Bio-inspired approaches based on animal behavior (Cuckoo search, Cat swarm, Artificial Bee Colony, Bat algorithm, Wolf search, …). • Bio-inspired approaches based on plant behavior (artificial algae algorithm, flower pollination algorithm, PIBO, …). • Bio-inspired approaches based on bacteria like BFO. • New approaches in evolutionary computing methods. • Combination of bio-inspired approaches with local search: Lamarckian strategies, Baldwinian strategies, memetic algorithms. • Combination of the bio-inspired approaches with artificial life models like cellular automata or Lindenmayer systems. • Applications with bio-inspired approaches. The Workshop on Parallel and Distributed Data Mining (WPDM 2018) is an international forum that brings together researchers and practitioners, working on different high-performance aspects of data mining algorithms, enabling novel applications. Indeed, datasets grow so rapidly that, every day, exabytes of data are being generated, and, in order to extract and infer useful knowledge, parallel processing techniques are required to cope with this huge volume of data: Traditional sequential software is not viable to cope with them. When the data are generated in different places (such as wireless sensor networks and/or Internet of things devices), they may be geographically spread out, and the data cannot be sent to a centralized site, thus, the need for distributed processing algorithms arises. Data mining techniques and algorithms to process huge amount of data in order to extract useful and interesting information have become popular in many different contexts. Algorithms are required to make sense of data automatically and in efficient ways. Nonetheless, even though sequential computer systems performance is improving, they are not suitable to keep up with the increase in the demand for data mining applications and the data size. Moreover, the main memory of sequential systems may not be enough to hold all the data related to current applications. Therefore, there is an increasing interest in the design and implementation of parallel data mining algorithms. On parallel computers, by exploiting the vast aggregate main memory and processing power of processors and accelerators, parallel algorithms can easily address both the running time and memory requirement issues. Anyway, parallelizing existing algorithms in order to achieve good performance and scalability with regard to massive datasets is not trivial. Indeed, it is of paramount importance a good data organization and decomposition strategy in order to balance the workload while minimizing data dependences. Another concern is related to minimizing synchronization and communication overhead. Finally, I/O costs should be minimized as well. The Workshop will allow exchanging ideas and results related to on-going research, focusing on high-performance aspects of data mining algorithms and applications. Creating breakthrough parallel algorithms for high-performance data mining applications requires addressing several key computing problems which may lead to novel solutions and new insights in interdisciplinary applications. The focus of the workshop is on all forms of advances in high-performance data mining algorithms and applications, and related topics. Postdoctoral researcher in computational science / computational nanoscience

Dear colleagues, The newly founded graduate school "Tailored Scale-Bridging Approaches to Computational Nanoscience" (www.compnano.kit.edu) starting on 1 April 2019, addresses the development and application of multiscale approaches to the scientific challenges of friction, materials aging, material design and biological function. The specific projects will focus on modelling friction between inorganic and biological materials, reactions on semiconductor surfaces, electron and exciton migration in organic electronics, and biochemical reactions in proteins undergoing large structural changes. The models involve many different length- and timescales, therefore, methods of ab initio quantum chemistry, force-field and coarse-grained approaches up to phenomenological approaches will be combined. To enable such complex and computationally demanding simulations all projects will employ workflow technologies combined with high performance computing (HPC). We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher in computational science for the following tasks: * Developing new, and extend and adapt existing scientific workflow methods to enable domain-specific solutions in computational nanoscience, in particular to improve usability and scalability of scientific workflow applications on HPC systems * Disseminating knowledge about workflow methods to application scientists in form of tutorials and in several collaborative projects within the graduate school * Deploying middleware (such as UNICORE, FireWorks, MongoDB) The successful candidate should have a doctoral degree in computer science or computational science and experience with workflow systems, workflow languages and/or high performance computing.
