The 21st International Conference on Computational Science and Its Applications - ICCSA 2021 - University of Cagliari, Sardinia Island, Italy July 5-8, 2021 https://iccsa.org CALL FOR WORKSHOP PROPOSALS We encourage and invite interested parties to submit a proposal for organizing a Workshop at ICCSA 2021, which will be organized hopefully in a blended way because of pandemic: part in presence, part online, building on the experience of ICCSA 2020 held in July 2020. Workshop proposals will be collected and evaluated as they are received until December 23, 2020 and notification of acceptance / rejection will be sent before December 27, 2020. The Workshop proposals should be submitted from the researcher's home page on the ICCSA 2021 Electronic Submission System: https://ess.iccsa.org. The form to be filled will require the following information: 1) Title of the Workshop Please select a simple name, close to the aim of the workshop. Do not include here the acronym. 2) The Acronym of the Workshop including the year, 2021 (e.g.: VRA 2021) 3) The selected publisher (LNCS) of the proposed workshop. If you are interested publishing the papers of your Workshop on IEEE-CPS Xplore, please specify IEEE. 4) Description of the Workshop, including the detailed list (name, affiliation, country) of the Program Committee members 5) Description of the topics (themes) of the workshop 2) Name, the affiliation, mailing address and e-mail address of the Workshop organizer(s). 3) Previous experience of the organizer(s) in organizing Workshops (if any). 4) Name, the affiliation, and e-mail addresses of at least three colleagues of the organizer(s) who can assess the ability to organize a Workshop 7) A short description on how the workshop will be advertised. The organization of successful workshops in previous editions of ICCSA (at least 5 papers accepted in the Proceedings, minimum no-show up, several discussions and questions during/after presentations), including the participation of the Workshop Organizers to the Conference, will be given priority ranking for acceptance. The information provided by the workshop organizer(s) to the Conference Chairs shall remain strictly confidential. The Workshop Organizers are responsible for all the organizational aspects including soliciting submissions and providing the details of an adequate number of reviewers for the Workshop papers. Workshop Organizers are also fully responsible for ensuring that only high quality papers are accepted for publication in the Proceedings and for verifying the correctness of the layout adopted by the authors (which depends from the editor selected for the workshop). They are also responsible for choosing the actual reviewers (at least three) for each paper and for monitoring the reviewing process on the reviewing system, in collaboration with the Conference Program Chairs. Workshop Organizers (or their Deputies) are expected to attend ICCSA 2021, set the order of presentations and chair their related workshop(s). Due to their active role, Workshop Organizers will receive some incentives, depending on the number and quality of accepted and registered papers. Paper submission ---------------- GENERAL TRACKS PAPERS: The submitted paper must be between 10 to 16 pages long and formatted according to the LNCS rules. WORKSHOP PAPERS: The submitted paper must be between 10 to 16 pages long and formatted according to the LNCS rules or 7 to 11 pages for CPS-Xplore publications. SHORT PAPERS: The submitted paper must be between 7 to 9 pages long and formatted according to the LNCS rules. PHD SHOWCASE PAPERS The submitted paper must be between 7 to 9 pages long and formatted according to the CPS -XPlore rules. Proceedings The proceedings will be published as a special series of volumes of the Lecture Notes on Computer Science (LNCS) edited by Springer. All accepted papers will be included in the Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series and indexed by Scopus, EI Engineering Index, Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index (included in ISI Web of Science), and several other indexing services. The papers will contain linked references, XML versions and citable DOI numbers. The conference will be held as part of and in conjunction with IEEE/ACM CCGrid 2021, which is sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society and ACM. INTRODUCTION Billions of devices and sensors ranging from user gadgets to more complex systems with sensing and actuating capabilities, such as power grids or vehicles, from the physical world are getting connected to the Internet. However, the need to operate the scale of heterogeneous devices and sensors while being performance-efficient in real-time is challenging. Typically, the data generated by the devices and sensors are transferred to and processed centrally by services hosted on geographically distant clouds. This is untenable given the communication latency incurred and the ingress bandwidth demand. A new and disruptive paradigm spear-headed by academics and industry experts is taking shape so that applications can leverage resources located at the edge of the network and along the continuum between the cloud and the edge. These edge resources may be geographically or in the network topology be closer to devices and sensors, such as home router, gateways or more substantial micro data centers. Edge resources may be used to offload selected services from the cloud to accelerate an application or host edge-native applications. The paradigm within which the edge is harnessed is referred to as 'Fog/Edge computing'. The Fog/Edge computing paradigm is expected to improve the agility of service deployments, make use of opportunistic and cheap computing, and leverage the network latency and bandwidth diversities between these resources. Numerous challenges arise when using edge resources, which requires the re-examination of operating systems, virtualization and containers, and middleware techniques for fabric management. Extensions to current programming and storage models are required and new abstractions that will allow developers to design novel applications that can benefit from massively distributed and data-driven systems need to be developed. Addressing security, privacy and trust of the edge resources is of paramount importance while managing the resources and context for mobile, transient and hardware constrained resources. Lastly, emerging domains like autonomous vehicles and machine/deep learning need to be supported over such platforms. CALL FOR PAPERS The conference seeks to attract high-quality contributions covering both theory and practice over system software and domain-specific applications related to next-generation distributed systems that use the edge. Call for Workshops: 10th International Conference on Model and Data Engineering (MEDI 2021) 21 - 23 June 2021, Tallinn, Estonia https://cs.ttu.ee/events/medi2021/ The MEDI Main Conference: -------------------------------- The Tenth International Conference on Model & Data Engineering (MEDI) will be held from 21 to 23 June 2021 in Tallinn, Estonia. Its main objective is to provide a forum for the dissemination of research accomplishments and to promote the interaction and collaboration between the models and data research communities. MEDI 2021 provides an international platform for the presentation of research on models and data theory, development of advanced technologies related to models and data and their advanced applications. This international scientific event, initiated by researchers from Euro-Mediterranean countries, also aims at promoting the creation of north-south scientific networks, projects and faculty/student exchanges. The conference is accompanied by satellite events, including demonstration papers and workshops. Proposed tutorials can be from any part of the reliable software domain, they may be purely academic or from an industrial base making use of tools used in current software development environments. We are also interested in contemporary software topics, such as IoT and artificial intelligence and their application to reliability and safety. Tutorial proposals shall include a title, an abstract, a description of the topic, an outline of the presentation, the proposed duration (half day or full day), and the intended level of the tutorial (introductory, intermediate, or advanced). All proposals should be submitted by e-mail to the Educational Tutorial Chair. The authors of accepted full-day tutorials will receive a complimentary conference registration. For half-day tutorials, this benefit is halved. The Ada User Journal will offer space for the publication of summaries of the accepted tutorials. *** Call for Workshops Workshops on themes that fall within the conference scope may be proposed. *********************************************************************** CALL FOR PARTICIPATION IEEE International Conference on High Performance Computing, Data, and Analytics, HiPC 2020 https://hipc.org/ *********************************************************************** HiPC 2020 is the 27th edition of the IEEE International Conference on High Performance Computing, Data, and Analytics. The conference focus is not only HPC but also includes Data Science. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year the conference will be held virtually on December 16, 17, and 18. Each day of the three day event will open with a keynote talk, followed by two one-hour live remote sessions to present the technical program of thirty-three peer reviewed papers. All papers accepted for the conference will be published as part of the proceedings that will be available before, during, and after the week of the scheduled conference. The online publication will include both papers and presentations (slides) for each paper. Access to the online publication is part of the free registration to attend the virtual live sessions. PDSEC 2021 Workshop - Call for Papers

(apologies for cross-postings) The 22nd IEEE International Workshop on Parallel and Distributed Scientific and Engineering Computing (PDSEC-21) (http://www.ieee-tcsc.org/2021/pdsec/) will be held on May 21, 2021 in Portland, Oregon in conjunction with IPDPS 2021. Given the pandemic, the conference organizers are planning for different potential scenarios, including a fully virtual conference. Deadline: PDSEC-21 deadline: 22 Jan 2021 (AoE) Scope and Interests: The technological trends in HPC system evolution indicates an increasing burden placed on application developers due to the management of the unprecedented complexity levels of hardware and its associated performance characteristics. Many existing scientific applications codes are unlikely to perform well on future systems without major modifications or even complete rewrites. In the future, it will be necessary to utilize, in concert, many characteristics such as multiple levels of parallelism, many lightweight cores, complex memory hierarchies, novel I/O technology, power capping, system-wide temporal/spatial performance heterogeneity and reliability concerns. The parallel and distributed computing (PDC) community has developed new programming models, algorithms, libraries and tools to meet these challenges in order to accommodate productive code development and effective system use. However, the scientific application community still needs to identify the benefit through practical evaluations. Thus, the focus of this workshop is on methodologies and experiences used in scientific and engineering applications and algorithms to achieve sustainable code development for better productivity, application performance and reliability. We apologize if you receive multiple copies of this notice. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ScalA’17: 8th Workshop on Latest Advances in Scalable Algorithms for Large-Scale Systems held in conjunction with the SC17: The International Conference on High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis in cooperation with ACM SIGHPC November 13, 2017, Denver, CO, USA <http://www.csm.ornl.gov/srt/conferences/Scala/2017> Novel scalable scientific algorithms are needed in order to enable key science applications to exploit the computational power of large-scale systems. This is especially true for the current tier of leading petascale machines and the road to exascale computing as HPC systems continue to scale up in compute node and processor core count. These extreme-scale systems require novel scientific algorithms to hide network and memory latency, have very high computation/communication overlap, have minimal communication, and have no synchronization points. Scientific algorithms for multi-petaflop and exa-flop systems also need to be fault tolerant and fault resilient, since the probability of faults increases with scale. Resilience at the system software and at the algorithmic level is needed as a crosscutting effort. Finally, with the advent of heterogeneous compute nodes that employ standard processors as well as GPGPUs, scientific algorithms need to match these architectures to extract the most performance. This includes different system-specific levels of parallelism as well as co-scheduling of computation. Key science applications require novel mathematical models and system software that address the scalability and resilience challenges of current- and future-generation extreme-scale HPC systems. Submission Guidelines Authors are invited to submit manuscripts in English structured as technical papers not exceeding 8 letter size (8.5in x 11in) pages including figures, tables, and references using the ACM format for conference proceedings. Submissions not conforming to these guidelines may be returned without review. Reference style files are available at <http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates>. All manuscripts will be reviewed and judged on correctness, originality, technical strength, and significance, quality of presentation, and interest and relevance to the workshop attendees. Dear colleagues, We have an open position in the new project “Virtual Research Environment for Materials Modeling and Data Analysis” of the Joint Lab “Virtual Materials Design” starting in January 2021. Workflow management, data analysis and visualization in materials science rely currently on generic tools and frameworks and general-purpose languages that require from domain researchers programming and command-line skills, and significant learning, development, validation and maintenance efforts. The main task is to devise a use-case driven domain specific language covering common objects and frequent tasks in computational materials science. This language should allow expressions covering selected use cases and abstract from knowledge of the underlying workflow models and data analysis tools. The new language is expected to increase productivity of domain scientists and enable rapid prototyping. In addition, language processors (interpreter or generator) and supporting tools have to be developed and integrated into an interactive platform (JupyterLab) together with established generic workflow management, data analysis and visualization tools. The successful candidate should have a master degree in computer science or a similar discipline and a very good knowledge of at least one programming language, preferably Python. Good programming and software engineering skills, knowledge of DSL frameworks, for example Xtext, textX or JetBrains MPS, and/or modeling frameworks (for example EMF or PyEcore) will be beneficial. The goal of the workshop is to gather researchers (computer scientists, engineers, mathematicians, physicists, chemists, biologists, material sciences etc.) working on different disciplines but all facing challenges in multi-scale and multi-physics as well as coupled simulations on HPC systems. This workshop is the second event in the series; the first was held at HPCAsia 2020, in Fukuoka, Japan. Successful early applications of the evolutionary computational approach can be found in the field of numerical optimization, while they have now become pervasive in applications for planning, scheduling, transportation and logistics, vehicle routing, packing problems, etc. With the widespread use of intelligent systems in recent years, evolutionary algorithms have been applied, beyond classical optimization problems, as components of intelligent systems for supporting tasks and decisions in the fields of machine vision, natural language processing, parameters optimization for neural networks (neuroevolution), and features selection in machine learning systems. Moreover, they are also applied in areas like complex networks dynamics, evolution and trend detection in social networks, emergent behaviour in multiagent systems and adaptive evolutionary user interfaces, to mention a few. In these systems, the evolutionary components are integrated into the overall architecture and they provide services, e.g., pattern matching services, to the specific algorithmic solutions. The aim of this Special Issue is to bring together recent theoretical and applicative research advancements in the area of evolutionary algorithms as components of intelligent systems, with a focus on solutions and methodologies that can be reused to solve subclasses of problems recurring in intelligent applications. Contributions are welcome on theoretical models and applications to intelligent systems of evolutionary algorithms for, but not limited to, single-objective and multiobjective optimization, numerical continuous nonlinear optimization, combinatorial optimization, graph matching and pattern matching, agents, and automata optimization. Evolutionary paradigms to be considered, non-exhaustively, include continuous and discrete differential evolution, genetic algorithms, memetic and foraging schemes, online evolutionary algorithms, genetic programming, co-evolution mechanisms, artificial immune systems, swarm-based approaches, ant colony optimization, and, more generally, nature and bio-inspired metaheuristics. The selection criteria will be primarily based on the formal and technical soundness, the experimental support, and the relevance of the contribution and its impact on the reusability of the results for solving subgroups of problems recurring in a class of intelligent applications.
