CRYPTACUS 2018 Call for participation Training School on Cryptanalysis of Ubiquitous Computing Systems Azores, Portugal Monday April 16 - Friday April 20, 2018 Organized by the CRYPTACUS COST Action (IC1403) https://www.cryptacus.eu/en/events/training-school-2018/ *Grants still available* Recent technological advances in hardware and software have irrevocably affected the classical picture of computing systems. Today, these no longer consist only of connected servers, but involve a wide range of pervasive and embedded devices, leading to the concept of "ubiquitous computing systems". To improve the security of these systems the existent cryptanalysis methodologies and tools need to be improved and adapted. This training school will focus on the assessment of theoretical and practical cryptographic mechanisms designed to ensure security and privacy, within four main axes: • cryptographic models; • cryptanalysis of building blocks; • hardware and software security engineering; • and security assessment of real-world systems. The training School will take place in the São Miguel island, Azores, Portugal. This training school aims at providing theoretical and practical lectures on topics related to security and cryptanalysis of ubiquitous computing systems. This training school is organized in the framework of the COST Action IC1403 – CRYPTACUS. Stipends will only be assigned to participants belonging to a COST Member State or Cooperating State (see http://www.cost.eu/about_cost/cost_member_states) which includes 37 countries. Students receiving grants must submit a short (4 pages) paper describing ongoing research for the PhD Session. PhD Session -------------- The PhD session, with lightning session and poster sessions, will provide an ideal opportunity for students to present their ongoing work and get feedback from senior researchers and fellow students. The scale of cloud computing data centers is similar to the supercomputers used in High Performance Computing. Both involve millions of CPU cores, tens of thousands of accelerators like GPUs, FPGAs connected by high speed interconnects and different connection topologies. Studies have shown that the GPU utilization in HPC is often at 50%. Virtualization can be the key to increasing resource utilization and managing massive infrastructures efficiently. GPU vendors have introduced virtualized versions of GPUs. FPGAs are being deployed in virtual infrastructure. These and other developments in the field, along with future exascale systems, will provide increasing degree of virtualization within the systems. The goal of this session is to be an opportunity to discuss and exchange research on the different virtualization technologies and how they can be efficiently applied in High Performance Computing. Committee members are not required to read the appendices, so the paper should be intelligible without them. All submissions must be written in English. CALL FOR PAPERS ********************************************************************** 4th IEEE Workshop on Security and Privacy in the Cloud (SPC 2018) Beijing, China - May 30-June 1, 2018 http://spc2018.di.unimi.it/ ********************************************************************** Cloud computing is today the reference paradigm for large-scale data storage and processing due to the convenient and efficient network access to configurable resources that can be easily adjusted according to the users’ needs. Although the benefits of cloud computing are tremendous, security and privacy concerns have still a detrimental impact on the adoption and acceptability of cloud services. In fact, users as well as companies that rely on cloud storage and computation services lose the direct control over the systems managing their data and applications, thus putting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the data at risk. The goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners who are interested in discussing the security, privacy, and data protection issues emerging in cloud scenarios, and possible solutions to them. SPC 2018 is the fourth workshop in this series and will be held in Beijing, China, on May 30-June 1, in conjunction with the IEEE Conference on Communications and Network Security (IEEE CNS 2018). The workshop seeks submissions from academia, industry, and government presenting novel research, as well as experimental studies, on all theoretical and practical aspects of security, privacy, and data protection in cloud scenarios. The workshop will also consider short submissions of up to 4 pages for results that are preliminary or that simply require few pages.
