WOCC'24: International Workshop on Converged Computing on Edge, Cloud, and HPC May 16, 2024, Hamburg, Germany To be held in conjunction with ISC'24: The International Conference on High Performance Computing Workshop website: https://kth-scalab.github.io/events/wocc24 Submission webpage: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=wocc24 ## Introduction The landscape of scientific computing is changing rapidly as complex, multi-stage pipelined workflows that combine traditional HPC computations with large-scale data analytics and AI are becoming increasingly common. Such complex workflows are expected to require the coordinated use of supercomputers, cloud data centers, and edge-processing devices in an environment with shared characteristics. Providing a seamless environment that combines the best of these worlds leads to an era of Converged Computing. Cloud computing is becoming a dominant market force, driving innovation in both hardware and the software needed to manage increasing system and workflow complexity. Cloud technologies are gaining prevalence in HPC due to their benefits of resource dynamism, automation, reproducibility, and resilience. Similarly, HPC technologies for application performance optimization and sophisticated scheduling of complex resources are being integrated into modern cloud infrastructures. However, the convergence of HPC and cloud also raises a series of new challenges in areas of resource management, data transfers, storage and throughput. The Second Workshop on Converged Computing (WOCC'24) will provide the edge, HPC and cloud communities a dedicated venue for discussing challenges and research opportunities, deployment efforts, and best practices in supporting complex workflows on coordinated use of supercomputers and cloud data centers as well as edge-processing devices. The workshop aims to spark discussion between participants who are developing applications, algorithms, middleware, and infrastructure for converged environments. ## Topics of Interest We encourage submission of works that are related to the following topics, and accept other related topics. The PhD Symposium at HPDC 2024 is intended to offer the possibility to show advanced "work in progress" to PhD students working on the HPDC 2024 conference relevant topics in the context of high-performance parallel and distributed computing. Accepted journal track papers will be published in a Special Issue of Elsevier JSA - the Journal of Systems Architecture (Q1 ranked, CiteScore 8.5, impact factor 4.5). Accordingly, the conference is listed as "Journal Published" in the latest update of the CORE Conference Ranking released in August 2023. [Submission details removed. The abstract of the accepted contributions will be included in the conference booklet. Early-stage ideas are 1-page papers that pitch new research directions that fall within the scope of the conference. Both kinds of submissions must be original and shall undergo anonymous peer review. Submissions by recent MSc graduates and PhD students are especially sought. Authors shall submit their work by 26 February 2024, via EasyChair at https://easychair.org/my/conference?conf=aeic2024, selecting the "Work-in-Progress Track". Tutorial proposals shall include a title, an abstract, a description of the topic, an outline of the presentation, the proposed duration (half-day or full-day), the intended level of the contents (introductory, intermediate, or advanced), and a statement motivating attendance. Tutorial proposals shall be submitted at any time but no later than the 26 February 2024 to the respective chair Maria A. Once submitted, each tutorial proposal will be evaluated by the conference organizers as soon as possible, with decisions from January 1st. The Ada User Journal will offer space for the publication of summaries of the accepted tutorials. *** Call for Workshops The conference welcomes satellite workshops centred on themes that fall within the conference scope. Proposals may be submitted for half- or full-day events, to be scheduled at either end of the AEiC conference. Workshop organizers shall also commit to producing the proceedings of the event, for publication in the Ada User Journal. The Artificial Intelligence and Information Analysis Laboratory (AIIA Lab, AIIA.CVML R&D group <https://aiia.csd.auth.gr/computer-vision-machine-learning/>) of the School of Informatics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece (AUTH) has two open postdoctoral research positions. The interested applicant must have strong theoretical and/or applied/programming background in Machine Learning and Computer Vision, with an emphasis on Deep Learning. A strong publication record is desirable. Potential (not exclusive) application domains include big data analysis, robotics/autonomous systems and digital media. Such complex workflows are expected to require the coordinated use of supercomputers, cloud data centers, and edge-processing devices in an environment with shared characteristics. Providing a seamless environment that combines the best of these worlds leads to an era of Converged Computing. Cloud computing is becoming a dominant market force, driving innovation in both hardware and the software needed to manage increasing system and workflow complexity. Cloud technologies are gaining prevalence in HPC due to their benefits of resource dynamism, automation, reproducibility, and resilience. Similarly, HPC technologies for application performance optimization and sophisticated scheduling of complex resources are being integrated into modern cloud infrastructures. However, the convergence of HPC and cloud also raises a series of new challenges in areas of resource management, data transfers, storage and throughput. The Second Workshop on Converged Computing (WOCC'24) will provide the edge, HPC and cloud communities a dedicated venue for discussing challenges and research opportunities, deployment efforts, and best practices in supporting complex workflows on coordinated use of supercomputers and cloud data centers as well as edge-processing devices. Call for Submissions CCGrid2024 Doctoral Symposium and Early Career Track The Doctoral Symposium and Early Career track at CCGrid2024 provides a platform for students and early career researchers to gain visibility, solicit feedback, and get mentorship and networking opportunities with experts attending the conference. Participants of the track will present their work to their peers and researchers and participate in the poster sessions of the main conference. The best research, based on all aspects — extended abstract, presentation, and poster, will be part of the CCGrid2024 awards. We encourage PhD students at all stages of their dissertation (getting started, mid-way, all but done) and early career researchers, academicians, and practitioners to participate via submitting to the track and attending events related to the track. Submissions are invited in all areas related to the theme of the CCGrid2024 conference. The list of topics of interest is the same as in the Call for Conference Research Papers. Submissions can include partial or even preliminary ideas and results and details of proposed solutions, a high-level summary of your published work, or novel work-in-progress ideas. First-author students are encouraged to submit a short version of the main-track research paper to this track. Important Dates: ● Papers Due: February 15, 2024 ● Notification of Acceptance: March 4, 2024 ● Camera-Ready Papers Due: March 11, 2024 ● Conference Dates: May 6-9, 2024 Submission Guidelines: Eligibility The first author of the submission must be a student enrolled in a doctoral or Masters’ degree program at an academic institution, a postdoctoral researcher, or an early career researcher having a Masters’ or Doctoral degree within the last 3 years (exceptional circumstances will be considered based on a per case basis, e.g., parental time or caring for elderly, etc.). Page Limits, Formatting and Proceedings ● Authors are invited to submit 4-page extended abstracts, including figures and tables but excluding references. ● Manuscripts should be formatted using the IEEE two-column format for conference proceedings. Papers must be submitted as a PDF file. ● All contributions should be submitted electronically through the EasyChair portal. Please select the Doctoral Symposium and Early Career track for your submission since multiple technical tracks may be open at the same time. ● The review process for papers will be single-blinded. Authors should include their names, affiliations, and email addresses as part of the submission. All manuscripts will be reviewed and judged by the program committee members. ● Papers that do not follow these guidelines will not be reviewed. Presentation ● Authors of accepted papers will be allotted short speaking slots to present their work as part of a session at the main conference. ● Participants are also expected to present their work at an interactive poster session and talk one-on-one with the attendees. The recommended poster size is A1 (594mm by 841mm, portrait). ● At least one student/early career author of each accepted paper must register for the conference at the author registration rate and must present their work. Any no-shows will cause the accepted contribution to be withdrawn from the conference proceedings.
