Dear All: The 24th IEEE International Workshop on Parallel and Distributed Scientific and Engineering Computing (PDSEC-23) (http://www.ieee-tcsc.org/2023/pdsec/) will be held on May 19, 2023 in St. Petersburg, Florida in conjunction with IPDPS 2023. Deadline: PDSEC-23 deadline: 15 Jan 2023 (AoE) Scope and Interests: The technological trends in HPC system evolution indicates an increasing burden placed on application developers due to the management of the unprecedented complexity levels of hardware and its associated performance characteristics. Many existing scientific applications codes are unlikely to perform well on future systems without major modifications or even complete rewrites. In the future, it will be necessary to utilize, in concert, many characteristics such as multiple levels of parallelism, many lightweight cores, complex memory hierarchies, novel I/O technology, power capping, system-wide temporal/spatial performance heterogeneity and reliability concerns. The parallel and distributed computing (PDC) community has developed new programming models, algorithms, libraries and tools to meet these challenges in order to accommodate productive code development and effective system use. However, the scientific application community still needs to identify the benefit through practical evaluations. Thus, the focus of this workshop is on methodologies and experiences used in scientific and engineering applications and algorithms to achieve sustainable code development for better productivity, application performance and reliability. In particular, we will focus on the following topics in parallel and distributed scientific and engineering applications, and not limited to: * Big scientific data * Performance modeling and simulation for the execution of scalable scientific applications on new heterogeneous architectures * Graph analytics with their (scientific) applications * Code modernization methodologies and experiences for adapting the changes in future computing systems * Languages for scientific computing on hybrid systems (e.g. Python, MPI+X where X is OpenMP, OpenCL, CUDA etc.) * Tools and techniques for improving the performance, reliability and resilience of scientific applications * Use cases of enterprise distributed computing technology (such as MapReduce, Data Analytics and Machine-learning tools) in scientific and engineering applications * Scalable parallel and distributed algorithms supporting science and engineering applications * Performance portability across heterogeneous architecture Important Dates: Paper submission due . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The objective of the SCALE Challenge is to highlight and showcase real-world problem-solving using computing that scales. Participants in the challenge will be expected to identify significant current real-world problems where scalable computing techniques can be effectively used, and design, implement, evaluate and demonstrate solutions. Problems that have a social impact are of particular interest. Authors are invited to submit 6-page technical paper, excluding references, describing the nature of the problem being solved, the solution technique, and offer preliminary evidence of the scalability achieved. The technical committee will shortlist finalists from these proposals, and invite them to present their work and offer a live demonstration at the CCGrid 2023 conference. I'm looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work with me as part of the Melbourne ARC Hub for Digital Bioprocess Development. This 3-year position will examine how relatively sparse high-quality data can be supplemented with lower quality data to enable ‘multi-fidelity’ optimisation for improved decision support for bioprocesses. ================================================================= AMPM 2022: 2nd Workshop in Agent-based Modeling & Policy-Making ================================================================= in conjunction with JURIX 2022, the 35th International Conference on Legal Knowledge and Information Systems. Workshop date: December 14th, 2022, Saarbrücken, Germany (the workshop will be conducted as a hybrid event). Deadline for submission: November 4th, 2022. Motivation ----------------- Global financial and economic crises, critical technological dependencies, pandemics, and climate change have cast serious doubts on the adequacy of conventional policy-making and law-making to consider mechanisms underlying social and economic phenomena. From their original application in engineering and science, computational models are increasingly being used to guide decisions by studying their potential consequences prior to making them. They are proposed as a tool for evidence-based policy-making in a diverse set of contexts: public health, ecology, labour markets, urban planning, social security, crime mitigation, economic development, platform economy and techno-regulation. Motivated by such widespread deployment, work on using computational models beyond executive policies and towards law-making — i.e. beyond operational guidance and towards regulation circumscribing the space in which policies can operate — is gaining momentum. Existing computational approaches to policy and normative design are known to face persisting complementary challenges: formal validity; effectiveness; efficiency; sustainability, etc. Several disciplines have focused on distinct aspects of these dimensions (e.g. computational legal theory, game theory, control systems design, dynamic systems, and system dynamics), offering alternative methodological standpoints and computational tools. Unfortunately, these specialized domains rarely interoperate and frequently contain troublesome assumptions such as overly simplistic fully observable static environments, static pay-off tables, static semantics, homogeneous agents that are perfectly rational and/or controllable. The resulting reduced views fail to take into account possible phenomena occurring at the boundaries between areas of concern. A crucial integrating role can be played by agent-based modelling (ABM). Based on an interactionist metaphor, agent-based models are an effective tool for understanding and reproducing the functioning and generation/emergence of complex macro-dynamics and constructs (shared knowledge, practices, protocols of interaction) at an aggregate level. Applied in social contexts, and particularly within the frame of computational social science (CSS), ABM lends itself to regulators and policymakers but also more widely to judges, attorneys, and legislators. Topics ----------------- AMPM is envisioned to be complementary to the traditional scope of computational social science, complex system research, and agent-based modeling, focusing on three main tracks: - models/theories going beyond policies, targeting normative and cognitive phenomena; - empirical methods, associated with the practice of ABM in policy and norm-making contexts; - better, dedicated tooling, such as computational methods, languages, and interfaces. In perspective, the workshop creates space for the ABM call for a “computation-enhanced regulatory empiricism”, exploiting computation to investigate factual underpinnings of the legal phenomenon, like the intricate networks of cognitive, social, technological, and legal mechanisms through which law emerges, is applied, and exerts its effects. Scope ----------------- The workshop aims to attract participants from various disciplines, and to be of interest to anyone working with the domain of governance of large-scale self-adaptive systems (human, computational, or natural): policy-making and normative design, governance, (computational) social science, (computational) legal theory, (computational) economics, autonomic computing, techno-regulation, distributed systems, agent-based modelling, and complexity science. Participation and Submission --------------------------------------------------- People interested in participating are requested to submit short (max 6 pages) or long papers (max 10 pages) before the November 4th 2022 via easychair: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ampm2022. Please use the CEURART 1-col style to prepare your submission. The typical submission for AMPM would be a reduced but self-complete and convincing version of a study (model, method, tool, theory, ..) — ongoing work to be later submitted to larger venues as AAMAS or similar —, or an innovative/provocative position paper, or a sound research stub with respect to the challenges expressed above. Authors of the accepted papers will present at the workshop. Presented papers can then be accepted or conditionally accepted for publication in the open-access CEUR workshop post-proceedings. A second round of reviews will be conducted on the camera-ready version to support that feedback and discussions are adequately integrated. CALL FOR WORKSHOP PROPOSALS The 23rd International Symposium on Cluster, Cloud and Internet Computing (CCGRID 2023)https://ccgrid2023.iisc.ac.in May 1 - 4, 2023, Bangalore, India The International Symposium on Cluster, Cloud and Internet Computing (CCGRID) invites proposals for workshops to be co-located with CCGRID 2023. Workshops provide a forum for discussion among researchers and practitioners on focused topics or emerging research areas relevant to the CCGRID community. Organizers may structure workshops as they see fit, including invited talks, panel discussions, presentations of works in progress, peer-reviewed short/full papers, or a combination of the above. Workshops are typically held on the first day of the conference (May 1, 2023) in parallel tracks, and are recommended to be scheduled for half a day (3 hours of technical program), but could be proposed for a full day (6 hours) depending on the interest and space constraints. Organizers should design workshops for approximately 20 to 40 participants, to balance impact and effective discussion. Peer-reviewed papers accepted by the workshops will be published in the CCGRIDW 2023 companion proceedings to be published online in the IEEE Explore digital library. Each paper must have at least two reviews to be eligible to appear in the proceedings. All authors and presented at the workshop should register for the CCGRID conference at the regular registration rates. One complimentary registration will be provided to a keynote speaker for each workshop. Submission Requirements Workshop proposals must be submitted in PDF format and should include: 1. The name and acronym of the workshop. 2. A brief description of why and to whom the workshop is of interest, and how it is aligned with/complements the topics of CCGRID. 3. The names, affiliation, emails, and short bio (up to 10 lines) of the workshop organizers and program committee chairs, and their prior experience with organizing workshops/conferences. 4. a list of potential program committee members. 5. A description of the structure of the workshops (papers, invited talks, panel discussions, and so on) and its draft schedule for a half or full day event. 6. Estimated number of papers to be solicited and accepted, invited talks, potential number of attendees expected. 7. Data about previous editions of the workshop (if any), including whether it was co-located with CCGRID, the attendance, the number of papers or presentations submitted and accepted, and the links to the corresponding websites. 8. A publicity plan for attracting submissions and attendees. 9. A draft call for papers with deadlines (see recommended dates below). The workshop proposal will be reviewed by the CCGRID workshop chairs and a review panel, and notified of the decision, including suggestions for improvement.
