Call for Papers
Second IEEE International Workshop on Security in NFV-SDN (SNS2017)
(website: http://sns2017.eu/)
in conjunction with the 3rd IEEE Conference on Network Softwarization (NetSoft 2017)
July 3-7, 2017 Bologna, Italy
Scope
Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and Software Defined Network (SDN) technologies are radically
changing telecommunication networks. NFV virtualizes network services to reduce the dependency on
underlying hardware which aids resource management, provides faster service enablement and lowers OPEX
and CAPEX. SDN separates the control functions from the underlying physical network by decoupling the
control and data planes thereby offering improved programmability, ease of deployment, management,
reduced costs, better scalability, availability, flexibility and fine-grain control of traffic. But how does this
widespread adoption of NVF-SDN impact on network security, especially with an increased attack surface
implied by virtualization? In this workshop, we invite high-quality submissions in the areas of NFV and SDN
security and related areas. Submitted papers should highlight methods and approaches that can be used to
analyse the security risks, requirements and techniques related to NFV and SDN and to provide methods and
approaches to assure security and mitigate threats in NFV and SDN.
Topics of interest
Topics of interest include but are not limited to the following areas:
* Security threats and vulnerabilities introduced by NFV and SDN technologies
* Management and orchestration of NFV and SDN elements for security
* Security, reliability and privacy through SDN and NFV in 5G networks
* Threat detection and mitigation through SDN and NFV
* Security policy specification and management in SDN and NFV systems
* Security related monitoring and analytics in SDN and NFV solutions
* 5G security architecture, trust and confidence
* Authentication, Authorization and Accounting in SDN
* Security of applying SDN to wireless and mobile network
* Security of applying NFV and SDN to IoT
* Security of applying NFV and SDN to cloud computing
* Risk and compliance issues in SDN
* Security architectures for SDN
* Security standards for SDN
* Security of SDN data plane
* Security of SDN control plane
* Security of SDN application plane
* Security of routing in SDN

11011 W. Charleston Blvd.
Las Vegas, NV 89135
www.wintersim.org
WSC TURNS 50: SIMULATION EVERYWHERE!
>From experimentation to theory; standards and advanced methodologies, modeling and simulation is continually pushing the envelope of the available technologies, as many sectors have growing needs to process, visualize, make readable, understand, and deploy complex models that use immense amounts of data. These players need to transform data into hypothesis building and critical decision-making, and to change their models in response to new hypotheses, usually involving multiple highly specialized experts working together in geographically distant areas.
After 50 years, we are now beyond Modeling and Simulation using Grid and Cloud computing, Web-based and distributed simulation and other recent technologies. We need to deal with computing power and storage in heterogeneous environments, resources virtualization; services consumed on demand (with minimal limitation for resource location), power issues, massive datasets. We face new challenges as we have ubiquitous processors that can process applications on demand.
WSC 2017 focus is on addressing how to achieve the goal of having Simulation Everywhere!
WSC 2017 is sponsored by: ACM/SIGSIM, IISE (Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers), INFORMS-SIM and SCS (Society for Modeling and Simulation International), with Technical Co-Sponsorship from ASA (American Statistical Association), ASIM (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Simulation), IEEE/SMC (Systems, Man and Cybernetics) and NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology).

50th Anniversary Keynote - Barry L Nelson Northwestern University
WSC 2067: What Are The Chances?
At the November 1967 "Conference on the Applications of Simulation Using GPSS" it seems unlikely that anyone was wondering if the conference would still be occupying a big hotel in 2017. Conferences persist for many reasons, but a technical conference like WSC has to remain relevant to users, vendors, researchers and consumers (not just hotels) to survive. If our kind of simulation vanished, then so (eventually) would WSC. What is required for simulation to "remain relevant" for the next 50 years? Without fear of having to answer for my crimes in 2067, I boldly speculate on what SHOULD matter for the next 10-20 years, if not the next 50, with a focus on our strength: dealing with uncertainty.

LOCATION
Praha (Prague)--also called The City of a Hundred Spires or The Heart of
Europe--is situated in the very centre of Bohemia on the banks of the river
Vltava. There live more than 1.2 million people in the metropolitan area.
Thus, Praha is considered the centre of science, higher education, culture,
economy and authorities.
The city is divided into ten districts. Each of them offers its own
charming atmosphere predicated upon its rich history. A good example can
be the Jewish Quarter (Josefov) known especially for the legend of Golem
and famous writer Franz Kafka. Then, walking the Parizska street (said to
be the most luxurious street in the city), there is the Old Town Square.
One of the most important squares of the city renowned for the rare Prague
Astronomical Clock (Orloj), number of galleries, Bethlehem Chapel and
a monument of religious reformer Jan Hus.
The next place of interest can be found in the area of the New Town. The
Wenceslas square with the monument of St. Wenceslas, the patron saint of
the Czech state, is the longest square of the republic. Its capacity is
fully used by various shops, restaurants, clubs and street artists. Also
the renaissance revival-styled building of National Museum, which is now
under reconstruction, is situated on the upper end of the square.
Modern art and architecture together with technical mastery demonstration
are represented by the Zizkov Television Tower, the Dancing House (Fred and
Ginger Building) or the Stefanik's Observatory on the Petrin hill located
in the neighbourhood of the quarter Hradcany. Also Krizik's light fountain
or Industrial Palace in the area of the Holesovice Showground are worth
seeing.
However, the dominant feature of the skyline is still created by the Prague
Castle and the Gothic St. Vitus Cathedral spires. The Golden Lane heading
down to the Lesser Town shows the tiny and colorful medieval houses. There
are many bridges connecting the banks of the Vltava River.
However, only one of them is well known in the whole world--the Charles
bridge. Czech King and Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV promoted its
construction in the 14th century. The bridge is 520 metres long and stands
for a connection between the Lesser Town and the Old Town. It was built in
the Gothic style as well as the St. Vitus Cathedral.
Charles IV was also the founder of the University, which now proudly bears
his name--The Charles University. It is one the world's oldest universities
and with 17 faculties, 3 institutes, 6 centres of teaching, research and
development it is also the largest and best rated university in the Czech
Republic. The students can choose some of the 642 courses within 300 of
accredited degree programmes in the field of medicine, law, theology,
pharmacy, arts, science, mathematics and physics, education, social
sciences, physical education and sports, and humanities.
We are justifiably very proud of the fact that the campus of the Charles
University is going to host the TSD2017 conference.
