SCOPE:
MSc students, PhD students, postdocs, junior/senior academics, and industry
practitioners will be typical profiles of the attendants. In fact, the
Advanced Course is not a summer school suited only for younger scholars.
Rather, a significant proportion of seasoned investigators are regularly
present among the attendees, often senior and junior faculty at their own
institutions. The balanced audience that we strive to maintain in each
Advanced Course greatly contributes to the development of intense
cross-disciplinary debates among faculty and participants that typically
address the most advanced and emerging areas of each topic.
Each faculty member presents lectures and discusses with the participants
for one entire day. Such long interaction together with the small,
exclusive Course size provides the uncommon opportunity to fully explore
the expertise of each faculty, often through one-to-one mentoring. This is
unparalleled and priceless.
The Certosa di Pontignano provides the perfect setting to a relaxed yet
intense learning atmosphere, with the stunning backdrop of the Tuscan
landscapes. World-class wines and traditional foods will make the Advanced
Course on Data Science and Machine Learning the experience of a lifetime.

Special Issue on Machine Learning for E-Services
Deadine: June 15, 2021
https://www.mdpi.com/journal/electronics/special_issues/ML_EServices
Special Issue Information
Machine learning is a discipline within computer science that went
through massive growth in the past several years. Through a series of
mathematical algorithms, together with the increasing availability of
data and computational power, a machine learning system can make
accurate predictions based on existing data. In addition to the
development of new algorithms or the fine-tuning of existing ones, many
researchers identified a huge potential in the application of machine
learning methods to solve relevant problems. One of the most promising
application fields is ‘e-services’, that is, the provision of
traditional services through an online Internet-based channel.
This Special Issue will address the most recent advances in the
introduction of machine learning techniques to improve and personalize
e-services. Thus, contributions are expected to present original
research on machine learning with real-world applications in e-services.
Topics for this Special Issue include, but are not limited to the following:
* New machine learning algorithms for e-services.
* Benchmarking of machine learning alternatives in e-services.
* Adaptation and fine-tuning of machine learning in specific
e-services domains.
* Machine learning in e-learning.
* Machine learning in e-health.
* Machine learning in e-government.
* Machine learning in e-commerce.
* Machine learning in e-Business.
* Machine learning in e-security.
* Machine learning in social networks.
* Machine learning in marketing.
* Machine learning for the development and deployment of e-services on
cloud computing scenarios.

The rapid growth in the population density in green cities demands that
services and infrastructure be provided to meet the needs of city
inhabitants. Thus, there has been an increase in the request for embedded
devices, such as sensors, actuators, and smartphones, leading to
considerable business potential for the new era of the Internet of Things
(IoT), in which all devices are capable of interconnecting and
communicating with each other over the Internet.
Thus, Internet technologies provide a way of integrating and sharing a
common communication medium and a complete system consisting of various
types of sensor deployment, including smart home sensors, vehicular
networking, weather and water sensors, smart parking sensors, and
surveillance objects.
This iSpecial Issue aims to bring together researchers and practitioners to
discuss various aspects of Internet of things and Big Data for Green
Cities, to explore key technologies, and to develop new applications in
this research field. Original research and review articles are welcome.
Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:
* IoT-based big data processes and applications for green
cities
* IoT-based services for smart and green cities
* Social computing big data and networks for green cities
* Green city big data governance and management
* City analytics methods and applications
* Green informatics: acquisition, aggregation, and analysis
of big data
* Green computing for sustainable planning and city
configuration
evaluation
* Big data modelling, storage, management, and analytics

Deadline: 30 April 2021
https://www.mdpi.com/journal/futureinternet/special_issues/PDGCP2P_C
Summary
Dear Colleagues,
recent years have witnessed the growing interest for parallel and distributed computing not just for large scale processing of big data, but also in the context of several research trends such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Mining, Wireless Sensor Networks, Internet of Things, Green Computing in Data Centers etc. The aim of the Special Issue is to address current research and trends in the field by focusing on theory, technologies and applications, highlighting both challenges and opportunities. The scope of the Special Issue is very broad, taking into account the interdisciplinarity of parallel and distributed computing. Among the topics of interest, there are (but the Special Issue is not strictly limited to these):
- Parallel algorithms;
- Distributed algorithms, including P2P algorithms;
- Fault-tolerant algorithms;
- Cloud and grid computing;
- Architectures for parallel and distributed computing;
- Green computing and data centers;
- Middleware and libraries for parallel and distributed computing;
- Scheduling and resource allocation.
