Do you have a project you would like to present?
Would you like to get more people involved with your project?
We're inviting proposals that are related to Ada software development,
and include a technical oriented discussion. You're not limited to
slide presentations, of course. Be creative. Propose something fun to
share with people so they might feel some of your enthusiasm for Ada!
An important goal is to present exciting Ada technology and projects
also to people outside the traditional Ada community.
Speaking slots are 25 or 50 minutes, including Q&A. Depending on
interest, we might also organize a session with lightning presentations
(e.g. 5 minutes each).
Please provide a proposed title, the preferred length, plus an abstract
and a short bio similar in style as on the program for previous Ada
DevRooms, see for example [1]. We need that to put the draft program
together by early December.
Please react ASAP, and submit proposals by November 26, 2017, or

INTRODUCTION AND MOTIVATION
With maturity of virtualization techniques, more and more services are to be run inside virtualized Data Centers vDCs)
to further reduce Operational (OPEX) and Capital Expenditures (CAPEX). Aligned with the general trend of
migrating traditional IT architectures to clouds (public or private), next generation of telecommunication networks
such as 5G are also envisaged to be run on virtualized environments where network functions are deployed on virtual
machines and/or containers instead of current proprietary equipment. Several proof-of-concept and initial industrial
deployments proved that Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) are two
promising technologies to enable such technological shift. Nevertheless, how to optimize and guarantee the
performance of such virtualized systems is still challenging, because they require accurate modelling and efficient
optimization to satisfy ever increasing demand of future networks.
To address several major issues raised by migrating network applications to virtualized infrastructures, this special
issue aims to highlight challenges, state-of-the-art, and solutions to a set of currently unresolved key questions
including, but not limited to: performance, modelling, optimizations, reliability, security, and techno-economic
aspects of virtualized networks. By addressing these concerns, technology might be one step closer to understanding,
and consequently, closing the gap between the performance of the next generation SDN/NFV-based networks and
their current counterparts in proprietary boxes.
In this special issue, we welcome contributions that can shed light onto any of the following questions:
1. How virtualized networks should be designed to guarantee the performance required by network operations?
2. How virtualized services can be benchmarked and/or compared?
3. How virtualized services should be designed and/or operated to take advantage of cloud infrastructures and
further provide flexibilities (such as load migration) that current proprietary equipment cannot provide?
4. How network functions should be placed and/or network capacities should be sliced to optimize network
critical metrics such as throughput, delay, jitter, etc.?
5. How virtualized services should/can be efficiently orchestrated, monitored, and managed?

[View More]outpacing the current development of hardware and software infrastructure. Nonetheless, this effort must be undertaken now for the preservation, organization and long-term maintenance of these precious data. However, the collected data is useless without our ability fully understand and make use of it. Therefore, we need new algorithms to address this challenge.
Data mining techniques and algorithms to process huge amount of data in order to extract useful and interesting information have become popular in many different contexts. Algorithms are required to make sense of data automatically and in efficient ways. Nonetheless, even though sequential computer systems performance is improving, they are not suitable to keep up with the increase in the demand for data mining applications and the data size. Moreover, the main memory of sequential systems may not be enough to hold all the data related to current applications.
This Special Issue takes into account the increasing interest in the design and implementation of parallel and distributed data mining algorithms. Parallel algorithms can easily address both the running time and memory requirement issues, by exploiting the vast aggregate main memory and processing power of processors and accelerators available on parallel computers. Anyway, parallelizing existing algorithms in order to achieve good performance and scalability with regard to massive datasets is not trivial. Indeed, it is of paramount importance a good data organization and decomposition strategy in order to balance the workload while minimizing data dependences. Another concern is related to minimizing synchronization and communication overhead. Finally, I/O costs should be minimized as well. Creating breakthrough parallel algorithms for high-performance data mining applications requires addressing several key computing problems which may lead to novel solutions and new insights in interdisciplinary applications.
Moreover, increasingly the data is spread among different geographically distributed sites. Centralized processing of this data is very inefficient and expensive. In some cases, it may even be impractical and subject to security risks. Therefore, processing the data minimizing the amount of data being exchanged whilst guaranteeing at the same time correctness and efficiency is an extremely important challenge. Distributed data mining performs data analysis and mining in a fundamentally distributed manner paying careful attention to resource constraints, in particular bandwidth limitation, privacy concerns and computing power.
The focus of this Special Issue is on all forms of advances in high-performance and distributed data mining algorithms and applications. The topics relevant to the Special Issue include (but are not limited to) the following.

Computational Intelligence (CI) is a huge and expanding field which is rapidly gaining importance, attracting more and more interests from both academia and industry. It includes a wide and ever-growing variety of optimization and machine learning algorithms, which, in turn, are applied to an even wider and faster growing range of different problem domains. For all of these domains and application scenarios, we want to pick the best algorithms. Actually, we want to do more, we want to improve upon the best algorithm. This requires a deep understanding of the problem at hand, the performance of the algorithms we have for that problem, the features that make instances of the problem hard for these algorithms, and the parameter settings for which the algorithms perform the best. Such knowledge can only be obtained empirically, by collecting data from experiments, by analyzing this data statistically, and by mining new information from it. Benchmarking is the engine driving research in the fields of optimization and machine learning for decades, while its potential has not been fully explored. Benchmarking the algorithms of Computational Intelligence is an application of Computational Intelligence itself! This workshop wants to bring together experts on benchmarking of optimization and machine learning algorithms. It provides a common forum for them to exchange findings and to explore new paradigms for performance comparison.
All accepted papers in this workshop will be included in the Proceedings of the IEEE ICACI 2018 published by IEEE Press and indexed by EI. Authors of selected papers will be invited to submit extended versions of these papers to the Special Issue on Benchmarking of Computational Intelligence Algorithms appearing in the Computational Intelligence journal by Wiley Periodicals Inc., indexed by EI and SCI (see the end of this CfP, http://iao.hfuu.edu.cn/bocia-ci-si, and http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/10.1111/(ISSN)1467-8640).

6. Chair Biographies
Prof. Dr. Thomas Weise obtained the MSc in Computer Science in 2005 from the Chemnitz University of Technology and his PhD from the University of Kassel in 2009. He then joined the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) as PostDoc and subsequently became Associate Professor at the USTC-Birmingham Joint Research Institute in Intelligent Computation and Its Applications (UBRI) at USTC. In 2016, he joined Hefei University as Full Professor to found the Institute of Applied Optimization at the Faculty of Computer Science and Technology. Prof. Weise has more than seven years of experience as a full time researcher in China, having contributed significantly both to fundamental as well as applied research. He has more than 80 scientific publications in international peer reviewed journals and conferences. His book "Global Optimization Algorithms – Theory and Application" has been cited more than 730 times. He has acted as reviewer, editor, or programme committee member at 70 different venues.
Prof. Dr. Bin Li received the B.S. degree from Hefei University of Technology, Hefei, China, in 1992, the M.Sc. degree from Institute of Plasma Physics, China Academy of Science, Hefei, China, in 1995, and the Ph.D. degree from University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), China in 2001. He is currently a professor with the School of Information Science and Technology, USTC, Hefei, China. He has authored and co-authored more than 40 refereed publications. His major research interests include evolutionary computation, memetic algorithms, pattern recognition, and real-world applications. Dr. Li is the Founding Chair of IEEE CIS Hefei Chapter, Counselor of IEEE USTC Student Branch, senior member of Chinese Institute of Electronics (CIE), member of the Technical Committee of Electronic Circuits and Systems Section of CIE.
Dr. Markus Wagner is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Computer Science, University of Adelaide, Australia. He has done his PhD studies at the Max Planck Institute for Informatics in Saarbrücken, Germany and at the University of Adelaide, Australia. His research topics range from mathematical runtime analysis of heuristic optimization algorithms and theory-guided algorithm design to applications of heuristic methods to renewable energy production, professional team cycling and software engineering. So far, he has been a program committee member 30 times, and he has written over 70 articles with over 70 different co-authors. He has chaired several education-related committees within the IEEE CIS, is Co- Chair of ACALCI 2017 and General Chair of ACALCI 2018.
Prof. Dr. Xingyi Zhang received the B.Sc. from Fuyang Normal College in 2003, and the M.Sc. in 2006 and Ph.D. in 2009 both from Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Currently, he is a professor in the School of Computer Science and Technology, Anhui University. His main research interests include unconventional models and algorithms of computation, multi-objective evolutionary optimization and membrane computing. He is the chair of 2017 Data Driven Optimization of Complex Systems and Applications and 2015 Asian Conference on Membrane Computing. He also serves as Editorial Board Member of Complex & Intelligent Systems and International Journal of Bio-inspired Computing.
Prof. Dr. Jörg Lässig leads the Enterprise Application Development Group (EAD) of the University of Applied Sciences Zittau/Görlitz in Germany since 2011. He holds degrees in Computer Science, Computational Physics, and received a Ph.D. in Computer Science for his research on efficient algorithms and models for the generation and control of cooperation networks at Chemnitz University of Technology (Germany), which he finished in 2009. Prof. Lässig has PostDocs at the Università della Svizzera italiana, Institute of Computational Sciences (Lugano, Switzerland) and the International Computer Science Institute Berkeley (California, USA). His EAD research group at HSZG and his IT security group with the Fraunhofer Society are focusing on topics concerned with intelligent data driven technologies for state-of-the-art IT infrastructures and services. His research directions include sustainable IT services, energy efficiency benchmarking, regional carbon footprints and energy informatics.

ICACI 2018 aims to provide a high-level international forum for scientists, engineers, and educators to present the state-of-the-art research and applications in computational intelligence. Aim and Scope
Systems Biology deals with the analysis of natural systems at various
scales of complexity, requiring different modeling frameworks and
computational methods. The applicability of these approaches may be
hampered by excessively burdensome execution times. The scope of this

related to the concluded conference IEEE 20th International Symposium on Real-Time Computing (ISORC), 2017. The objective is
to present papers that explore the use of object/component/service-oriented real-time distributed computing (ORC) technology
in the design of CPS. Besides papers related to ISORCÕs 2017 theme of scalable and real-time data analytics, we also welcome
papers in other real-time CPS topics such as programming models, systems engineering, distributed computing and
communication infrastructures, systems software, and technologies for resilience.

Scope
The scope of this special issue includes all areas related to real-time computing and communication technologies for CPS. In
particular, papers that explore ORC technology and real-time data analytics for CPS are welcome. Besides regular research
papers, perspective papers that present a grand challenge problem, charter a new direction of research, express a contradictory
viewpoint, or promote an interdisciplinary research area related to the topic of this special issue are also welcome.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to the following:
- Scalable and Real-Time Data Analytics: Algorithms and computational infrastructure to support real-time data analytics,
case-studies and applications in real-time data analytics.
- Programming Models and Systems Engineering: Object/component modelling frameworks, real-time language
frameworks including synchronous languages, model-driven design and development, time-predictable hardware and
software architecture design.
- Distributed Computing and Communication Infrastructure: Real-time communication protocols, networked platforms,
peer-to-peer computing, real-time wireless sensor networks.
- Systems Software: Real-time kernels and OS, middleware support for ORC, quality-of-service management, resource
synchronization, allocation and scheduling.
- Resilience: Trusted and dependable systems, fault tolerance, security, self-awareness, resilient hardware and software
architectures.

Submitted papers must strictly follow the IEEE Embedded Systems Letters guidelines (http://www.ieee-ceda.org/publication/esl-

Papers should follow the IEEE transactions two-column format in 10-pt. font, and must consist of original work that has not been

The technological trends of HPC system evolution indicates
increasing burden for application developers in management of the
unprecedented levels of complexity …
[View More]in hardware and the associated
performance characteristics. Many existing application codes are
unlikely to perform well on future systems without major
modifications or even complete rewrites. It will be important to
utilize, in unison, many characteristics such as multiple levels of
parallelism, many lightweight cores, complex memory hierarchies,
novel I/O technology, power capping, system-wide temporal/spatial
performance heterogeneity and reliability concerns. The HPC
community has developed new programming models, algorithms,
libraries and tools to meet these challenges in order to accommodate
productive code development and effective system use. However, the
application community still needs to identify the benefit through
practical evaluations.
Thus, the focus of this workshop is on methodologies and experiences
of scientific and engineering applications and algorithms to achieve
sustainable code development for better productivity, application
performance and reliability. In particular, we will focus on the
following topics in parallel and distributed scientific and
engineering applications, but not limited to:
* Code modernization methodologies and experiences for adapting the
changes in future computing systems such as porting of legacy
simulation code and libraries/tools to facilitate code refactoring
and porting.
* Application and algorithm development of various parallel and
distributed programming models/framework such as CAF, UPC, Chapel,
X10, Charm++, HPX, Uintah, Legion, and/or the interoperation of
multiple models within single applications (e.g. MPI+X where X is
OpenMP, OpenCL, CUDA etc). We appreciate the experiences of early
adopters of new programming models and platforms.
* Experience in new tools and libraries for effective application
development, including performance tools, application development
frameworks, Domain Specific Languages (DSLs), etc.
* Tools and techniques for improving application reliability and
resilience. This includes both performance and correctness issues,
with the latter arising from adverse operating conditions
(e.g. low power) or very large system scales.
* Use cases of enterprise distributed computing technology (such as
MapReduce, Data Analytics and Machine-learning tools) in
scientific and engineering applications.
* Large-scale parallel and distributed algorithms supporting science
and engineering applications.
* Methodologies and experiences in developing large-scale applications.
